When to take the ACT/SAT for USNA

First I would like to say that this is a great resource. Thank you to all those who respond to the questions posed in these forums.

My question is when do I take standardized tests? (I am a rising junior)

I know the NASS application has a fill-in spot for the PSAT, ACT, and SAT. I will be taking the PSAT in October. Is it necessary to take the ACT or SAT by Feb. 1 so that I can put that score on the app?
Also, if I put that score on the app, is it necessary for me to send that particular score report to USNA?
I live in Illinois, and the state mandates that we take the ACT anyway at the end of April. The score for that appears on our transcript.

-Thank you

As often as your budget and schedule allow, and your app demands until you’ve done the best you can do on verbal and math sections of these standardized exams. But start early, prepare with practice, and do your very best. Don’t get to December of 2012 saying, “I think if I took them one more time, I’d get my best score.” There are benchmarks for for baseline scores and targets for top scores. Shoot for the sky.

That’s not quite the answer I was looking for. Maybe I was a little indirect, let me rephrase the question.

On the NASS application, there are spots to enter PSAT, ACT, and SAT scores. Would the Academy be okay if I entered only a PSAT score? Or, do I have to take the ACT/SAT as well by Feb. 1st?

Second, if the answer to the previous question is yes, must I request the test-makers to send the Academy my score? Or would they rely solely on what I designate in the NASS app?
If the answer is no, must I send the Academy my PSAT score?

-Thank you

A good communication lesson. Mean what you say. Say what you mean. To your questions:

For NASS app, Academy’s fine w/ PSAT scores.

You do NOT have to have PSAT official scores sent to Academy.

You do NOT have to have taken SAT and/or ACT by -01 Feb 2012 for your NASS app. If you have, send scores either officially and/or on the NASS app. Remember, you are NOT a candidate yet, so no official score reports are necessary.

Hope this helps.

When all else fails, review sentence #2. ;)

P.S. If budget allows, being a rising junior, you might want to commence taking ACT or SAT prior to 01 Feb.

Thanks a lot. And yes, right now I’m focusing on the PSAT but after Oct. I’ll work on the ACT. :)
