As the title says, I was wondering when I should thank rec letter writers with a small thank you card (and possibly a small gift)?
Should I thank them immediately after they write it and it has been submitted to my schools? Or should I wait until Christmas break? Or should I wait until I get into my first college? Should I give a small card first and then give the small gift at a separate time?
Lastly, I was wondering if I should update them on my admissions decisions (acceptances, waitlists, denials, and deferrals) and how should I do this (like via email, via word of mouth, etc.)?
My kids thanked the teachers in person when they agreed to write the letter and again when they submitted the letter. When the process was over they stopped by and gave the teachers (and their guidance counselors who were excellent throughout the process) a small gift and a handwritten thank you note and let them know what college they would be attending.
My kids did not inform the teachers of every decision along the way – they didn’t feel the teachers needed or even wanted to hear that level of detail. However, their guidance counselor did track that information.
