I have done my research and understand that USC requires 30 units minimum to transfer. Does that mean a student can transfer after only 1 year in a community college? The application deadlines (for most colleges) are in January, and that would mean that less than 30 units were completed.

I am currently a freshman at Santa Monica College and taking pre-med classes. Will I be able to apply to USC for my sophomore year?

This thread is relevant to my interests…bump!

Yes, you can apply there your sophmore year after you have taken 30 credits as stated. But it does not mean you can transfer ONLY after one year in community college; you can transfer in your second year, too.

You can transfer in for sophomore year, but there needs to be at least half of the those 30 units completed in your fall semester. The other half of the 30 units must be in progress for spring while applying and should be completed before your spring term is over.
I do have to say that there is a lot more people who accepted as junior transfer and I’ve seen very few sophomore ones, but it is definitely possible. I think you do need to check if there are courses you need to complete before you can actually transfer and that is dependent upon your major.

thank you contractkiller and jace, and sorry for the late reply.

i’ll try my best to transfer the next year, and i’ll be back posting here if i don’t, haha
