Twitter and Facebook aren’t really competing with each other. Different markets.

They’ll both be around for quite awhile.

Exactly. They compliment each other more than they compete with each other.

If Google wanted to overtake Facebook…they’d buy it.

twitter is worthless #self-indulgence #pointless tags #aren’t I clever

some of the tags are really funny, and like reading what people say on them. keeps me busy when i’m bored.

They’re both really different, so I don’t think it will replace Facebook.

I hate Twitter. I don’t care enough about anyone’s life to read annoying updates every 30 minutes. Nobody/Nothing is that important.

Everyone hates on Twitter but doesn’t realize that a large portion of people don’t just narrate their lives with it.

Most use it to have conversations.

^ But there are so many more other effective means of conversation than Twitter. It just doesn’t make sense.

^ This.

10 char

I don’t see the purpose in twitter. Besides, if you want to post (pointless) status updates you can do it on Facebook. You can also have conversation on FB, too.

You’re missing the point. It’s not being primarily used for status updates, it’s being used to have conversations with people that have similar interests. There’s basically no commitment beyond following someone in order to have a quick conversation about anything. Many professions use it to discuss quick ideas with others in their field. Businesses are using it as well. Look up Gary Vaynerchuk for more about what I’m talking of.

Professionals, not professions^

Twitter will come and go but facebook will still be around. It serves every purpose a social-networking site could possibly serve. And for the people who say it’s too “open,” you can set your privacy settings so strictly that if you wanted nobody could even find your profile on a search and only you would be allowed to contact people. And now you can make lists of your friends that allow you to let some people see things and others not. If you spend five minutes in the privacy section I’m sure you wouldn’t feel violated by facebook.
