die? Or has it become too ingrained in our culture?

Yes 10char

It Will probably die, just like MySpace. Social media is a fad,

have u seen timeline?

It will die eventually. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it outlives Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook is now far bigger than MySpace was at its peak, it’s much more ingrained in society, and it has spread to users that are less fickle than the people that were using MySpace (i.e. teenagers). Technology is making it easier and easier to profit from having huge numbers of users (and their personal data). Facebook has the strength to respond to any innovations by competitors, and while many people don’t like Facebook’s changes, it’s probably better than never changing.

That said, the idea of social media is relatively new, so it’s possible that someone will come along and create something that’s much better than Facebook. But that’s probably what it will take. Marginal improvement isn’t going to get people to switch over. Facebook could also totally screw up their site, but I don’t think that’s particularly likely.

Very insightful comment, Ada.

Nobody in this thread is Ada

My bad! I must’ve mistaken someone else for someone else.

I don’t think everyone could just disconnect. Facebook is intergrated into people’s lives.

I think gradually new technology and sites will begin to outstrip it in poluarity, and in maybe 15 or 20 years it will be basically gone.

Why would you lie about your identity?

Maybe not die. Most likely it will morph into something different and evolve but I think facebook will stick around for a while.

i hate timeline and i’m doing everything in my power to not get it.
