@cmd7131 - boo! What’s going on with CSE this year?
The good news is that your D is in another comparable school and her work ethic will serve her very well. Not sure where you all live but we have three out of state now and it’s amazing how creative one can get in figuring out how to shuttle them around.
And who knows - she may be accepted off the waitlist for CSE after all. We are still not through with the admission cycle.
@JBStillFlying We are in IL. My D has been accepted to U of I Stats and CS in LAS - it is similar to UMN alternate CS program except it is BS instead of a BA. She will go with lots of AP and dual credits that will allow her to take some of the upper level CS electives making it very close to CS in CoE, except without some of the engineering and science courses. She also has offers of admit from few other out of state and private schools. We are waiting for scholarship decisions.
My older D goes to Georgia Tech, so we are used to a kid being far from home :-). My younger one has been deferred at GT. We have a small hope (it is more of a wish than hope) but are prepared for a denial decision considering how hard it is to get into GT. Purdue CS is also a waitlist - not having much hope on that either as we were told clearly it is a zero chance. It has been a tough admissions season - some decisions didn’t go our way, while others did. Once we have everything we will make a decision that is in my D’s best interest and meets our budget.
Overall we are in a better shape than we thought we will be at this time, when we saw my D’s ACT scores in September/November. So no complaints. My only wish is schools can do better to meet the exploding demand in CS and engineering. My comment on Purdue thread speaks to this - it was a spur of the moment rant, but I am much more calm now and taking it on the chin. GT deferral was disappointing, but it was kind of expected. We were nervous about Purdue, but the decision definitely hurt. We were more hopeful with UMN - though we didn’t it take as a safety, we thought it was a match, didn’t know it was a reach. That said I am happy for all the deserving applicants that got in.
Thanks to you and this community that helps parents like me keep their sanity
@cmd7131 You should email the office of admissions and submit her first semester grades to demonstrate interest and prove that she is still academically successful.
@gopheralum94 - IIRC National High School fall admit. I remember reading that in the other big Accepted thread. If I am not mistaken, it means the applicant is admitted.
@cmd7131@JBStillFlying so relieved! And today the tracker says “Congratulations!” Again thank you both for your support on this forum. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.
