Getting into the honors program and knowledge of other scholarships is key to my son making his final decision (I’m pretty sure SHU is his 1st choice but he’s got one other program that he had a surge in interest with a scholarship (he’s denied his acceptances to 3 others already and only has yet to hear from 2). When do they hear as he wants to find a roommate. If they are in the Honors Program they need to find roommates within the same program. He has been on the facebook page just perusing so far. I’m hoping on the scholarship date or the admitted students day, he’ll have better luck meeting face to face. He’s very personable so I’m not worried.
My son was sick his freshman/soph year in high school so his over GPA and class rank isn’t the highest but he was a 4.0 jr. year and 1st semester sr. year so I’m hoping this is looked at in his scholarship applications and honors program applications. Plus he has extensive volunteering and servant leadership.
Are students 2 to a dorm room only or is there a chance as I’ve heard at some schools of 3 and even 4?
I’m looking forward to being involved as it’s close enough to home… although i do have some trepidition as to staying away from him so he has his time… thoughts on this from other students and parents?
Hello, the Honors Program is currently in the process of notifying students on their application decision. As far as scholarships, all applicants are automatically considered for the merit-based award. If your son applied for any of our special scholarships, we would recommend reaching out to the Office of Admissions for an update regarding his application status.
With regards to placement in the residence halls, the large majority of rooms are doubles. There are some triples across campus, mostly being in the upperclassmen area, however there is a possibility that a freshman student can be placed into a triple in one of the freshman buildings. For more information of the different type of room options, please email Housing & Residence Life at shuhousing@shu.edu.
thanks, sadly he didn’t make neither honors program he applied to… He is now choosing to go elsewhere unless he gets wowed this weekend. He did get a nice scholarship though. Sadly this weather isn’t going to help. We shall see if something wows him hopefully… he was very disappointed on not getting into either program he applied to. I was so impressed by how much work he put into it and never saw him work so hard and not get something he strived for. Is it possible to get into these honors programs after his freshman year? They need to accept failure and move on, I know it’s highly competitive. The business one really was his reason for choosing SHU. The school is doing a great job.
