I am a High School student in my last year. Next year I will and would apply for university but I need to clarify to myself some stuff.

First of all, I am somewhat bemused over the terms undergraduate school and pre-med. If I am a pre-med, taking the required courses to get into medical school, what does it mean to major and when would I major during the 4 years in university?

Thanks in advance

You apply for college in your senior year of high school. Apps are generally due by January and you know which college accepts you around April.

Are you taking a year off?

Pre-med isn’t a major per se. It just means that you want to go to medical school. So you need to choose a major. You usually select your major by the end of your second year of college.

Basically in your first two years of college you take general education courses (ie English, math). As a potential science major you should take Bio 1 and 2, Chem 1 and 2 and Orgo Chem during this time.

In the second two years you usually take classes for your major.

You could major in anything you want for med school.
