When you apply to a college do they see your AP scores?

I've heard many different stories to this. My AP teacher said if you get a 3 on one exam, but the following year you get a 4 that college's will see your improvement. He said it will look good. But I heard some say schools don't even see the results until after you get in and then they would never see if you improved. Can someone please tell me the fact, because I've heard many different answers. Oh and they asked if you wanted to send in the AP scores to anyone. Is that only for the school you are going to or is a school which you want to apply to? Thanks!

You self report scores.

Do you mean when you apply to the college?

when you apply on the application they ask you what tests you previously took & the scores you received on them.

Couldn’t anybody lie?

you have to send them the scores eventually so sure you can lie but itll bite you in the ass come july…

Can AP Scores go on your transcript? So, you can submit scores from one AP to one school and not another?

i think it depends on your school? because mine only put my SAT scores on the transcript. but when you send the AP report im pretty positive all your scores will be on there so theyll find out eventually. are you stressing about a crappy score or something?

No, I just took AP Human Geo today. I was just curious to see if college’s will see the score when I apply. This way I can show improvement in the scores through out high school.

i dont think they weigh Ap scores that heavily

ap scores are not a big factor in admission. They are mainly there to make sure that there isn’t grade inflation in your class, or if a child is lazy.

Ok thanks everyone.

Showing that you took an AP class/an AP exam to demonstrate AP-equivalant coursework/ or scored well on an AP exam, shows the college that you strive for the most rigorous curriculum. Colleges are as interested in the striving as they are in the score.

Thanks toad.

If you apply using Common App, there is a place to put your AP scores, but my guidance counselor told us not to put them on there. So my colleges did not see my scores when i was applying, I’ll just send them later.

You choose whether or not you want to send them. When you take the AP test, they ask you to put in the code for the colleges you want the scores to go to. so yes, you can hide the scores. You dont have to report them.

It’s kind of like the “rules” of resume-writing. If it’s really good, make a point to say something about it.

D1 had a boatload of APs, and several of her apps asked for academic accomplishments, or even a resume/brag sheet of sorts. She had a couple of 4’s, but the rest were 5’s. She listed all the APs she took, when she took them (took a couple as a sophomore), and listed the scores. I don’t think it made any difference in the app process, as she had the GPA and SAT scores to get her noticed anyway. But, if it’s good news, it’s something else you can list.

D2 listed hers as well, she had several, but not as many tests, and started later. Her strengths were not only her GPA and SAT #'s, but then her community and leadership involvement were the big highlights, so that’s what she emphasized a lot more.

What do schools prefer, does it hurt you if you don’t show them? :)

I saw where you can send the scores. But I’m just a freshman, why would I send scores for?
