shouyld we already be looking or a couple more months is ok...

You've actually already missed out on many of the top interships. :(

Stop by the career center ASAP and see what they can do for you.

If you are proactive, there's tons of great stuff out there though, so don't get discouraged, especially if your a 1st or 2nd year because 3rd year interships are what is most important. Anything you do your first or second year will look great, even if its working on campus.

So is it a good idea to get an internship summer of sophmore year and then again in junior year?

Internships are always a good thing.

Ideally, you want to get one your 3rd year summer that will make you a full time offer for when you graduate.

Obviously there is some variation here, for instance if your going to grad school right after college.

dude, now.

i started looking the first week of Feb last year, and didn't land my job until FINALS OF SPRING QUARTER. it can take a long time, especially if you're interested in something paid.

oh definately not looking for anything paid.. im realistic haha.
so going into second year summer just do anything that's decent... what did you do your second year summer allie when you were at CC

summer school. i didn't look for internships until winter quarter of 3rd year at UCLA, landed it at the end of spring and im still there. will probably stay post graduation.

i might have gotten lucky.

but even if i had done internships, it would've been pointless because i completely changed my career aspirations once i got to UCLA. my experience in the other field definitely helped by giving me leadership experience, but that's about it. some other minor skills but not a lot that's congruent with what i'm doing now.

check out the career center website, they have tons of internship listings (they really need more full time listings, that part sucks). and monstertrak. and seriously, craigslist.

you'll find something.

right, but its only february. if i reply to an ad on craigslist they're looking for now, not june. does the career center already place people in feb?

as stated in a previous post the deadline for many internship applications has past.

hmm, odd they get people so many months in advance. but im not looking for the top ones like the average CCer

I just recently got an internship with a company called Southwestern for the summer... it isn't a top one, but it's something.

how did you get it?

yeah dude they list now for summer. especially since all of the other schools in the area get out in May, it's not really as far away as it seems.

Eh i'm fishing the waters for in a couple years, right now im goign to intern w/you allie b/c you're about to become big

oh, if only.

What are the rest of you first years doing this summer? Sc hool? Internships? Laying at the beach? haha. does anybody just do nothing in college summers??

i'm going home and chilling, and working someplace.
that reminds me... i should look for jobs xD

namaste,

I actually found out about it by filling out one of those random little sheets of paper they pass out at the beginning of some lectures... haha. But the site is www.southwestern.com if you wanna check it out, they do interviews all the way through April I think, so you can still apply if you want.

uhhh.

i just checked out that website. it sounds a little scammy. might be completely legitimate, but i'm always verrry skeptical of any company that uses "direct selling".

be careful with that.

yeah, that's what I kinda thought too when I first heard of it.

But I actually know people who's done it in previous years, so that's legit enough for me.
