Where and how do you find and apply for an internship as a high schooler

Class of '13 so I don't have a lot of summers for it

At this stage you don’t really apply so much as network. My advice to you though is to just enjoy your free time during summer until you hit college.

Volunteer/network. See if there is anyone around (neighbors, coaches, parents of friends, friends of your parents) who works in a field you are interested in, and talk to them. Get together a resume (there are examples on the Internet of high school student resumes so you can get an idea of what to include). If you can work for free, all the better (people like getting free hands).

There are tons of internships but it helps to get advice from teachers and counselors at school. Many of them are science based. Some internships require moving to another state for the summer. But in all cases, you need transcripts, references, essays, and a very flexible summer. I would start now researching the options so you are ready to apply in early fall for the following summer leading into college.
