Where can I transfer?

Hi,

I transferred into San Francisco State last semester and.. it's okay, but I didn't do as much research as I should have after finishing my GE's at community college. I'd like to transfer somewhere else.

High School GPA was about 2.8. I don't remember my SAT scores. I'm willing to retake them, but I have the feeling the tier of schools I'll get into won't require them. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Community College GPA was 2.83 again.. blah. I only did really well my last year and the horrible grades from my first year really weigh my GPA down. I also did some English tutoring and was picked for creative writing program readings.

At SFSU I have a 3.4. I expect this to go up after this semester.

I'm in the English/Creative Writing program right now, and I don't feel like it's a good fit for me. I feel like I'm wasting the extra money it costs to go here. I'd like to go somewhere smaller, somewhere not in California, and (preferably) with a good financial aid program.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I've got no idea what schools will let me transfer in other than CSUs and possibly UCs. I know that no matter what school I go to, I'll do pretty well with these last two years, so should I just stick it out and try for a better grad school instead? Thanks in advance.

Financial aid will be a big issue. It would be very hard to find a school that would give you generous aid. Except for top schools like the ivies, very few have generous aid, merit or need based, for transfers.

It also sounds like you would just have 1 year to go when you transfer which is also a problem for many colleges.

So depending on how much aid you need, maybe it's a good idea to stay where you are or go to another CSU and try schools you'll enjoy more for grad school. If you don't need much aid I'd look at the book 'Colleges That Change Lives' for some thoughts.
