School recommendations- transferring english undergrad

I am currently an English major at Santa Clara with a 3.68 GPA after my freshman year. I want to transfer to a school with a better english undergrad program. Does anyone have a suggestion for the best possible english undergrad program that i would have a realistic chance at getting in? Size, location, and tuition costs don't matter.

Well, for starters, what is it about SCU that makes you want to transfer out? That would certainly affect my thoughts about what school(s) you should consider. And, what would be a "better" undergrad English program by your standards?

I want to transfer out of SCU because i don't feel the English department is challanging me. SCU is known for it's business school and engineering, and the English department doesn't feel adequate enough to develop my writing abilities. I've already taken several major-only English classes, and all were underwhelming. I know every college has its share of terrible classes, but for me it seems to be universal at SCU's English department. Also, I don't think an English degree from SCU will mean too much when I need to find a job. There must be a college outside of the Ivies that is known for having a reputable English program. I've thought about UC Berkley and NYU, but other than that, I have no clue what schools to look for.

I would definitely apply to UCB if I were you. A 3.68 from SCU should be competitive within the applicant pool.

I would tell you more about the English program but it's all ancedotal evidence (as I'm incoming junior transfer). Yet, from what I've heard, its pretty damn amazing.

If you have any specific questions about the app process for UCB I could prolly help you more with that...
