Where did your SAT 1950-2100 child get in?

So glad to see this thread back. Hope more 2012 parents post.

Forester - I am already freaking and hinting to my son to cast a wide net.

Globaltraveler - I agree that an education can be had in many ways, but I also know my kid, his intelligence, his immaturity, all of it. He would NOT do well at a large state school. He could blend in at the lectures, put off the work & then get hit at the end. He does better in discussion classes. Dealing with red tape is also not his thing. Given the cost of our state schools, we may be better off financially at a private.

Good for you!My daughter is a first year at Wellesley. If we had gone purely on numbers she would not even have tried. She is a leader and had great extra curriculars ,that was the deciding factor IMO.Schools like Wellesley stack up favorably with anyone.

I am a white, middle class girl with no hooks. I didn’t study for the SAT or ACT on principle and I have an 3.7 UW GPA at a top private school. I was accepted at Colorado College with a $40,000 merit schol, UVM with a $44,000 merit schol, UChicago EA, waitlisted at Wesleyan, accepted at Macalester, rejected by Brown and Columbia and waiting to hear from Middlebury and Yale

oh I forgot! SAT 1430/2080. ACT 32 (missed 1 on writing and reading, ended up with a 34 & 35 respectively. 27 in math, 33 in science)

My daughter was accepted at Wheaton MA (73K), U of R (9K) and Colby with a 1950 SAT and 3.8 GPA. Still waiting to hear from Middlebury. No hooks, but excellent EC’s and recs.

BlueState: Wheaton is $73K a year?

I’m a HS senior:

With merit scholarships:
UCONN
Northeastern University
University of Rochester
University of Miami
University of Pittsburgh (full tuition)
Smith College (merits are rare, though. About 250 awarded out of 4k+ apps)

Schools with no merit scholarships:
Brown University
Johns Hopkins University
Harvard University

Rejected at MIT, Stanford.

Straight A GPA UW, all honors and AP classes, ranked 4/249 at time of applying, SAT 2080, M+CR = 1380, took Math 2, Bio M subject tests.

S had 1970 SAT. 29 ACT superscore . Not sure of GPA; at least 3.7 uw (homeschooled last year and school wouldn’t include that year in its GAP or rank). Honors, 3 APs. URM. Unique ECs and great essays.

Haverford
Macalester
Kenyon
Dickinson
Oberlin ($15,000/yr merit; will be attending!)
College of Wooster ($15,000/yr merit)
Goucher ($15,000/yr merit)
Juniata ($17,000/yr merit)
Denison ($20,000/yr merit)

Thanks for this thread everybody. My 2014D just got her first SAT results, 2100, but 700M/660CR/740W. She has big ambitions for Ivy kind of schools. Very good ECs with a couple regional Science Olympiad medals and hoping/possible to add state/national medals this/next year. Straight As, top 2% of class and will have 10 APs. She’s interested in engineering. CPU, your post gives me great hope.

This is a great thread.

We felt like that 2000-ish SAT score was somewhat of an “in-between” score in today’s competitive admissions process. It seemed like my son didn’t fall solidly into either category - very strong A+ student, great SATs, or more B type student, making us cast a wide net.

So here are the results for S2 with a 3.7 GPA, 2000 SAT (650 M, 690 CR, W 660) lots of ECs and community service. Hope this helps the 2013 class!

Accepted:

@born2dance94 - So true! I didn’t quite get that either!

I was accepted to University of Chicago (EA), Bard College (EA), and Vassar College (ED).

SAT 1970 (590 M, 680 CR, 700 W), ACT 31, 3.85 UW GPA, ranked 7/255
Very dedicated to pursuing a career in medicine
No hooks

I will be attending Vassar in the Fall, and I feel so grateful to have been accepted!

My daughter:
700M + 680R + 590W = 1970 total

CPUscientist3000 -

Congratulations on some great results.

Your SAT scores of 680/700/700 are in the 98th+, 99th and 99th percentiles, respectively, for your reference group.

pittpride- I know your daughter will have good results! :)

my$.02 thanks.

My daughter had 4.6 GPA and 2120 SAT and didn’t get any merit aid from Pitt. Maybe it was because her major, biology, is among their most popular?

We took a different tactic and went for merit aid, so DS applied to schools that offered good merit aid and where he was in the top percentages for school:

Transylvania 1/2 tuition
Ohio Wesleyan (1/2 tuition)
Hanover (3/4 tuition)
Lawrence(2/3 tuition)
Wabash (full tuition-3/4 pure merit)
Tulane ($27,000)

Assuming the 3.7 GPA was UW? On our end, 3.6 UW w/1400 SAT got denied @BC, Wash U, Emory; UMich deferred and still waiting for final decision. Varsity sport, comm. svc, great recs, etc. We have learned that the key is a 4.0 UW GPA, not necessarily how many APs. Schools don’t take into account weighted GPAs so be sure the AP courses will not ruin your GPA.

2050 SAT, 30 ACT
Rank: 5/576
GPA: 103.5 W (don’t know how to convert to 4.0 scale)

Accepted:

admitted Univ of Richmond, had local very good interview, College of Charleston honors (where he will attend), Quinnipiac, URI, UCONN, UMASS,

Waitlisted GW, AU, NE, Wake Forest (bad interview), will not pursue any of these
