I am transferring to emory in the fall and plan on getting my MBA after graduation. What type of grad schools do emory graduates usually go to (business of course)?

I didn't get into Wharton for undergraduate however I am very interested in Wharton, Harvard and Stanford for graduate school (high hopes I know), but seeing as emory's business program seems to be ranked between 4 and 5 in recent years, that sounds like it's a reasonable goal.

What do ya'll think?

hey zildjian i am an incoming freshmen at emory (2012! Woot!) and I have similar aspirations to attend a top b-school for my MBA such as stanford, i picked emory over other schools such as USC and UMD-college park for its b-school which is consistently top 5 in the country
when i visited i took a tour of goizueta and received a bit of info about grads, within 3 months after graduating from emory nearly 76% are employed, while 10% go to grad school, the rest either choosing to take time off or still looking for a job
Your goal sounds really realistic, if you do well at goizueta and get some work experience (3-5 yrs) and a great score on the GMAT, soon after you should be in great shape to attend one of these schools, i wish you all the best at emory!

Thanks. One question about the work experience, I have actually been running my own business for the last 4 years (without giving figures, I'll just say I myself am considered middle class) so by graduation I will have been running my company (it is also a LLC btw) for 7-8 years, will that suffice for work experience or do schools want you to work for someone else?

Well today on my campus tour they say students at Goizueta only go to class 4 days a week. On the fifth day, they go out into Atlanta and start doing internships, making connections, etc. I don't know much about business schools and I am not interested in business at all but I just wanted to throw it out there if thats sound interesting or something.

The majority of folks I knew that went to graduate school got JDs and PhDs, but the two I know who got MBAs went to MIT and Harvard. The latter got a joint MBA/PhD.

were there any harvard laws?

Absolutely. There are social, academic, and special interest groups at Emory--in my case, centered around a particular extracurricular activity--whose members routinely gain admission to the country's very best graduate and professional schools. There were plenty of folks who went to Harvard law each year, and a smaller but still significant number who went to Yale. Enrollment in doctoral programs reflected a broader, and perhaps even more impressive, range of universities.

If one works hard and does well at Emory--or at any school with comparable faculty and material resources--admission to grad school won't be a problem. Emory has built the infrastructure and foundation for access and success; your return will likely match your investment.

Hey DC20005 nicely said...thank you for the info (headed to Emory soon)
