I’m a high school senior and it’s crunch time. I recently chose to apply to Florida Atlantic University, University of West Florida, Georgia State, University of New Orleans, and Southeastern Louisiana University. But I’m beginning to rethink my choices. I haven’t applied yet.
I made a 24 on the act and 1070 on the sat and a 3.0 gpa.
I also am trying to decide on being a veterinarian, nurse, or maybe a high school english teacher. I also want to study abroad and the location of the college is imperative. A great town with lots to do, parties, nice weather etc.
Ok so feedback, suggestions, what colleges have all three that I’m looking for?
So, veterinarian requires grad school. You would major in anything you want while taking the prerequisites for vet school. However, you will need to take a number of science classes anyway. Being pre-vet is like being pre-med, you must get top grades and relevant research or volunteer experience to improve your chances of being able to go on to the next stage.
Nursing is usually something you decide on quickly during freshman year. Some schools are direct admit, meaning you can apply as a nursing major and start with a spot guaranteed for you as long as you keep your grades up. Other schools wait to see how you do in the first year or two of pre-nursing classes and then you compete to get into your major.
Education majors are the easiest to get into of your three possible paths. If you know what state you want to teach in, go to college in that state. It may make it simpler to get your teaching certificate.
Do you need a significant amount of financial aid? If not, then Eckerd in St. Petersburg, FL, might be within reach. Whittier is another possibility, if you’re willing to travel to LA.
