where do the "average" kids go?

Where can I go with a 3.75uw/3.92w/460v/720m/590w and a few EC's? I know my verbal score is pretty low, but can UW-Seattle and UIUC be a match? (Majoring: Mathematics.) Will I get into atleast one if I apply by October 23?

PS: Rank: 35/375

Keep retaking the SAT's. You're GPA is really good, but truthfully an 1180 will really hurt your chances. Luckily, Practice + Repetition = Higher Scores, and assuming you're a junior you have atleast 2-4 more testing dates before you apply anywhere.

... I guess that was more of a general post than one regarding the two schools you mentioned.

Will a 1220 be solid?

Check the two schools' 25%-75% range, closer you are to 75% (or above) the better.

All my stats are approximately in their 60%ile, except for my verbal score which is far below the 25%ile and math score which above their 75%ile. Will all this (hopefully) average out to make me stand atleast in their 50%ile?

In response to Bailey's OP:

S#1's SATs were similar to yours; 3.4 GPA W. Not good enough for flagship state u, but was accepted into the next tier. To be brutal, S#1 was smart, but a little lazy; the top schools want smart and hardworking.

What are you planning to study? IMHO, many future engineers I have known have similar disparities between SATs and GPAs. Their math/science grades are golden, but the subjects they're not as interested in suffer. They have been accepted into decent engineering schools (probably not MIT, but still...)

2.8 GPA, about 50% in rank, 21 ACT... very good ECs though.

U. Nebraska, Iowa State, SLU, Wabash
