i live in syracuse new york. where is the nearest airport in michigan from this college, and where do u guys normally fly into. thanks.

i always fly into the Ann Arbor International Airport

Most people fly into Detroit Metropolitan Airport. It's probably the closest one, around 30 min. away. A cab could cost you anywhere from $40 to $50.

I was looking at some map and also some airport called the Ann Arbor Airport, but I have no idea what that's about. It's the first time I heard of it. Does anyone know anything about the Ann Arbor Airport? I could have sworn it was on the map.

Oh, I guess my post was a split-second too late. Who else goes through the Ann Arbor airport?

lol its international?! international meaning us/canada?!

no one uses the ann arbor airport. i live in ann arbor and i've never heard of anyone flying in there. go through detroit metro airport, it's maybe 30 minutes away depending on traffic.

I lived in Ann Arbor for 6 years and I never saw the airport! LOL I know it is somewhere off of State street, south of I-94, but that's it!

Most people fly into Detroit MEtropolitan Airport, which is actually closet to Ann Arbor than it is to Detroit. In fact, DMA is a mere 21 miles away from Ann Arbor and all 21 miles is a highway with traffic moving at an average speed of 65-75 miles per hour. In short, it is an easy drive.

i was just kidding lol

Fly into DTW. It's the Northwest hub, so you can get a direct flight from literally everywhere in the country and pretty much anywhere in the world.

Umich is about 30 minutes away, straight shot down the highway.

So what's the deal with Ann Arbor airport? Is it exclusive/private?

not really sure what it is used for, but it's definitely not used by any commercial flights as far as i know.

Does anyone know what's happening with the Northwest strike? Anyway I use Independence Air (flyi.com). It's really cheap and sometimes there are some good student discounts.

The strike is for baggage handlers, it probably won't affect your flights. I flew into DTW a couple days ago, and I didn't have any issues.

I few on Northwest this weekend. They've reduced their schedule somewhat, but otherwise not a lot of changes. The strike is not for baggage handlers; it's the mechanics. No other union has joined the strike, so things are going pretty smoothly.

Most people use Detroit Metro. Flint and Toledo are also options, but those are smaller airports. They're possibilities if you're interested in other airlines like Midwest Express (for Flint).

The Ann Arbor airport is one of the state's busiest non-commercial airports. It's off of Ellsworth, between South State and Lohr (south of town). Lots of private planes there, and of course that's where the Goodyear blimp comes in and out of. People will bring in small chartered jets sometimes, but mostly it's smaller prop planes, privately owned. I know people fly in sometimes for football games, but you'll not find any major carriers providing passenger service there.

Oops, that is indeed right, the mechanics, not the baggage handlers.
