In AA, where do most guys go? Nothing fancy, no styling. Just a simple haircut. Any suggestions?

good question....what about other services as well, like best _____

-haircut
-food
-manicure/pedicure
-tanning(if they do that in AA)
-waxing
-clubs
-any other places I forgot to mention for the masses

Hopefully everyone can add to this generic list and make this a good guide for all.

Back in the day, when I had hair to cut, I used to go to the place next to Cottage Inn on East Williams and Maynard. There was a cute Asian girl who used to cut my hair. I had a secret crush on her! hehe!!!

When I lived in PR(Puerto Rico) i would go to bloom, thats not much help is it? Plus it was VERY metrosexual.

For guys haircuts, I know of State Street Barbershop and Coach and Four. Both are off State Street between Hill and Packard, and I think both are $16. I always go to Coach and Four because they used to have one of the best skate sharpeners in the country before he retired. They also have a wide selection of magazines (mostly sports, some car stuff, and Playboy), satellite tv, refrigerator (I got offered a "refreshment" one time), and in general a pretty good atmosphere. I was too young to recognize him at the time, but I guess I got my hair cut at the same time as Bo there.

Do you guys know if there is a place that does good blowouts, etc.? i stopped by at the shop on state street.. it looked stylish but idk

jeez, are there any real cheap barbers in AA, like $7 or so? I have to get a haircut every 3 weeks, so it gets costly.

I've been going to a one that costs $13. Anyone find a cheaper one?

there's one in briarwood that's like 11 bucks and there is one in nichol's arcade which I hear is cheap, but I've never been to it.

there's the haircutting school near the maynard parking garage. $14. I usually get a new person everytime until someone does an incredible job and i'll stick with him/her

Thats called the Douglas J Aveda Institute.

http://www.douglasj.com/elservices05.html

It's actually very fantastic. The people there know what theyre doing, you get served your choice of coffee, tea, or water while waiting.

The place on E William is around 14 too. I'd rather pay 14 dollars to someone whose already been trained. Plus you have to wait a really llong time at that place because people have to come around and check the students at every step in the haircut.

I just got a buzzcut today (#2)....so I don't think I'll need a haircut for a few months.

This is probably the way to go lol

I don't go to UofM but i've lived in A2 for most of my life so i'll try to help

Shaman Drum bookstore for rare books (great selection here), Footprints/Launch board shop for Nike Dunks and limited edition kicks, Vault of midnight for japanese stuff and kidrobot/medicom toys if your into that, and Encore recordings for vinyls (great classic/underground hip hop section here)

is scrupples the BEST hair salon in the area? if not, please recommend the BEST salon in the area. i'm willing to pay the extra cash.

The guy has lived there for a long time, I think it has to be pretty reputable.

what about for concerts and popular carry out places?

what else do they have at encore recordings? only vinyl or do they sell audio gear too (ie. guitar center)?

Vinyl, cds, dvds, and tapes. No audio gear.

There are a couple of "legendary" hair cutters in town. There's Raji at The Tribe on East Liberty. I like Raine at Salon in the City. She studied with Raji - and is great for color. "Current" magazine readers voted Orbit and Above Ground as the best salons - but this is kind of a junky magazine so I'm not so sure I'd trust it. For other spa services, there's the Aveda place - which is a school. I had a terrible pedicure there once - so you never know what you're going to get. You could try Bellanina Day Spa. There are plenty of chain haircut places for inexpensive cuts. You can also do what we did when I was a student - and cut each other's hair.
