Like, in high school you just couldn't nap, period.

In college, so many of us do. :p

Anyways, where are the places where it's fine if people nap, and where are the places where it usually isn't fine?

I once went to Kaplan testing office next to the university and napped there. The people there kicked me out. :p

I also napped in the Bookstore - and the employees there kicked me out as well. :p (even though there were sofas). Funny thing was that I napped next to a dark-skinned person who looked homeless (he was also napping). The employee told the other person to leave - and only told me to stop napping.

My university is next to a large homeless population though - and those people tend to try to find places to nap. I wonder if the policies of nearby non-university buildings are different where there aren't large homeless populations.

I've napped in the dormitories as well - the RAs usually take issue with that (there are public areas in the dormitories, and sofas in the public areas there).

I've also napped on the computer lab chairs as well - some people seem to take issue with that - but it's more often than not ignored. The libraries do have sofas on the 3rd floor though - and they're filled with nappers.

The individual department buildings have different informal policies. I've been kicked out in some buildings - and ignored in other buildings. Some of the departments have a particular couch that is often used for napping. I've also taken over several comfy chairs in empty classrooms.

On my campus, the only place to take naps is the library. So, the couches are used there. No idea how the people sleep through the noise though. (our library is actually really noisy)

People nap in class too...but I wouldn't reccommend that.

Try to find a nice field or open lawn where you can just lay out, read, nap or do whatever. You can take your shirt off, get some sun, and just relax.

stereotypes - he seemed to be homeless - so he was asked to leave (since people don't like the homeless to "get a free lunch" from their buildings).

My school has about 5 huge Library's each all more than 4 floors, each floor about the size of a Olympic size running rack. though only some people fully live at 1 Library. The others arent open 24/7/ We have a commuter lounge which has a ton of couches and such where you can sleep.

Why do you need to nap so much, and why do you need to do it on campus? If you have a dorm or a place nearby, why don't you nap there?

university is huge. if you're tired, you don't want to walk 10 minutes across campus

People actually live in the library? :p Which school do you go to?

Unless you go somewhere extremely cold, I would just take a blanket or something and lay down on the grass. Or sit down and lean up against a tree.

Lots of people take naps on benches outside here. Or they'll put a towel/blanket/jacket out on the ground and nap. There's also couches, chairs, and little round bench-like areas in our student union that I have seen people napping in. One of the organizations I'm in, in their office they have a couch so usually if I want a nap I just go up there (er, just did this on friday actually, lol). I wouldn't sleep on a bench, I'd be afraid someone'd take my stuff. I used to live in a dorm so I would just go back there and sleep but now I'm in an off-campus apartment which is a 20-25 minute walk or a 15 minute bus ride, so I'm probably going to be finding myself napping in the office quite a bit.

The top floor of the main library is one of the most popular nap places at my school. I've taken power naps in chairs, and they are not that bad if a couch is not available.

zorz, I knew that suny at buffalo was one of the best suny's but had no idea their library were that great. Are the libraries there noisy?

At penn state, there is a large room in the main library with two rows with about 20 couches each where people nap the afternoon away. However, some parts of the library are basically a social scene and people will not hesitate to answer their phone and have a regular conversation wherever they are. What annoys me is that people will pick up the phone and have loud conversations right next to the librarian, who just seats there and pretends everything is normal!

If I sleep in a public place, I keep my backpack clutched to my chest so that if anyone touched it, I would wake up. I try and limit the sleeping in public though.
