Where is the competition?

I’ve read that some candidates that might get instantly rejected in some regions might be a shoe-in in others. What are the less competitive areas? I’m about 20 minutes out from New Orleans, Louisiana and I’m hoping this is one of the less competitive regions. As far as I know, there isn’t an airforce base around here. The only cadet that I know of that came from my school was a few years back and is now close to or at the top of his class, according to my ALO. thanks

I wouldn't try and rely on being in a less competative region....so try not to think about it. ;)

I've heard that florida, texas, and colorado are competive for the air force. However i'm not sure exactly

I'm not going to rely on it, but it will sure give me a boost in confidence because right now I have very little. I wish I would have found out about the academy a long time ago. I never even knew it existed till about a month ago :/

That's ok. Do what you can now. I have a feeling if you are OUTSIDE New Orleans in a more rural, less suburban area, your "chances" might be better, also remember, your congresscritter (as Zap calls it) might be your area PLUS New Orleans or its suburbs. Basically, its hard to tell unless you look it up. But honestly, just apply, all you have to lose is time and postage. You won't know till you try, and if you don't make it in, you have more time to try and to improve the odds. Many have done it. If you want in, I'm sure you have the ability if you put in the work and keep trying. I've wanted to go here for 10 years, I started Taekwondo 10 years ago to begin preparing me. Then there are people I know that are in your position and found out late in high school, but they are here. Keep your mind in the game, try not to play if games and "am I good enough," just put your best in.

I wouldn't outright ask the officer interviewing you (their name is escaping me right now), but during my interview the officer outright told me I was lucky I lived where I did and not one congressional district over...

I have mentioned this before on this forum, but that drummin guy was not on then. Please remember to check out the USAFA Prep school and be WILLING to go there if you have that option. It is a year that will prepare you greatly for USAFA itself. I had never even heard of the Prep Schools until we went for our Cadet's congressional interview, and learning about those was our Cadet's avenue into the Academy. Some folks are not willing to go that route, and as a result don't get to go any route through the Academy.

If any of you out there were indeed accepted into the Prep School for class of 2008 as I was, don't hesitate to e-mail me at bryant.mateus@yahoo.com or IM me at bmatacid123.
