why are there no posts here? this is a good college..it's beautiful...has much to offer in study abroad etc. everyday i check to see what someone has to say about cc but nothing. if you're out there...... current student, alum, throw a bone this way....................

Me too!
I check cuz I'm from New London & am looking to defend it, make suggestions about the area or be of help to parents sending the kids here who are unfamiliar and have read negetive stuff about the location. Are you a current student? If so, ask away. I've read posts, not necessarily here, from kids who went to conn or are thinking about it who seem grossly uninformed about the area. Hope I can help!

Conn is one of my top choices! I can't wait to hear back from them.

i'm the resident conn coll shill around these parts....

thank you huskem. i'll start with a question. i'm interested in Burdick because i like quiet when i study. do the students there get steriotyped as anti-social? I don't drink either but i am more interested in quiet than in whether my roommate drinks. i do really like to have fun.........despite this post!

definitely not. Most people who choose to live in BUrdick do so because they need the quiet to study, but they still like to have fun. THe difference is that Burdick isn't home to any keg parties.

thank you.........

i applied to conn along with a bunch of other similar northeast, small, liberal arts schools. is there anything that might set conn apart from some of the other schools of its type?

there are so many small LACs in the northeast that its hard to make generalized statements...which ones did you apply to?

what's the food like there? lots of fresh fruit or is it the usual pizza, tator tot kind of place? are people excited about the new gym....it sounds great....

I am like the worlds pickiest eater (vegetarian, health nut), and I thought the food at Conn was actually pretty good! There is a main dining hall and 5 smaller dining halls. The main dining hall has TONS of options- there is always the hot food station (usually with 3 or 4 different entrees), a fast food station(burgers, fries, etc), a pizza/pasta station, a vegeterian station (also with 3 or 4 different options), an ENORMOUS salad bar (seriously one of the best salad bars i've seen anywhere, restuarants included- tons and tons of fresh items every day), a deli line, a bakery, and ice cream.
The smaller dining halls have only a few options, but its nice because they are at the other end of campus, near the academic buildings, and its awesome being able to run in in between classes for a quick bite.
As far as college food goes, and I've eaten at many many schools, Conn is definitely up there. College kids love to complain about things, but at Conn food really isnt one of them!

great! i am definately a health nut but i have a weakness for ice cream so that all sounds good. that salad bar sounds great. i'm home for lunch and i wish i was at that salad bar now. thanks huskem

I applied to Skidmore and Ithaca (both in NY), Goucher (MD), TCNJ, and Clark U (Mass).

how is new london's overall social scene--- like what do u do for fun? i live in bridgeport, ct and applied but i dont kno much about new london.

what would be the differences between as well as the positives and negatives of each: quiet housing and chem-free. thanks!

ctrkg, i want to know that as well. i really like that both are available. quiet is near the library as well. are people who choose this type of housing steriotyped as anti-social?

My impression of the surrounding town was that it's a really nice place, but maybe not much to do outside of the campus. Mystic seems more like a go-for-the-day tourist place without much for locals. Am I way off?

There's actually lots to do in the area. New London has a growing arts & music scene. Downtown has a variety of restaurants including many ethnic restaurants (thai, japanese, indian, mexican etc) an organic bistro & 2 great "hang out" type coffee shops. There are plenty of bars, The Dutch Tavern (oldest bar in New London - Eugene Oneill used to get drunk there) , Hanafin's- authentic irish pub run by a guy from Ireland & Stashes (not downtown, but just 5 more minutes away on Pequot ave) has lots of live music. There's a good vintage clothing boutique downtown also. Ocean Beach (in New London, about 10-15 min from campus)is probably on of the nicest beaches in CT. Harkness Memorial park(about 10-15 away in waterford) is a beautiful state park, a former estate, on the water with incredible gardens, a beach and lots a nooks & crannies for hanging out. There's great kayaking & fishing & sailing in the immediate area. If you have any specifics you'd like to know about, just ask.

Wow, that's great to hear. Thanks a lot!

WHERE HAS THE LOVE GONE?!?! We were doing well for a while, but it seems to have died down...a lot! Here's a question: is Conn anyone's top choice right now?
