What do you think makes CC unique?

Location, curriculum, the opportunities available while you're there, the warmth of all of the administrators, and the honor code. <3 Conn, I really really hope I'm accepted!!

my daughter is a freshman at Conn. Great student body, excellent teaching staff so far, decent housing, substance free available. Food not bad. One of the nicest locations/ looks out over the Thames River to Long Island Sound to the Atlantic Ocean. Fog horns sometimes at night, far away, haunted lighthouse in New London harbor.Across from US Coast Guard Academy/ some courses available therei. Good Div III athletic program/ our experience with coaches excellent . Next to beautiful 750 acres arboretum. Old stone buildings for the real college look. Convenient to Boston, NY and Providence. New London is not best town around but college is insulated from it. Have to visit but we were really happy

S1 graduated from there a few years ago. He enjoyed it very much and now rooms with three other people from Conn. Got a fantastic internship very relevant to his interests, where he has worked for three summers. Still in touch with the profs in his major; he's relying on them for advice and recs for graduate school. Had a great semester abroad. IMHO, nice nice kids who are motivated and smart.

Whats the diversity scene there?

The reviews say that the college lacks in that aspect. What do you guys think?

I do agree that diversity may be lacking. There is a large WASP, preppy vibe throughout the people. However, the college is still international. It has great programs that promote international awareness and building new knowledge. It has well-respected study away programs all throughout the world. A percentage of the students are from other countries, but they never stay isolated from American students. If the United Nations had a college, I bet it'd be called Connecticut College. :) YOu should visit the campus if you're not too far away... it's really beautiful!

I really wish I could! From what I've seen in videos and pictures, it definitely looks amazing! ConColl is way up on my college list. :) I'd be so glad if I get accepted.

I'm a current student and I think that one can interact with the diverse student body if he/she wants to experience such cultures/friendships. There are plenty of people from all over the world here; I've had classes with someone from Turkey, Hong Kong, Chile, Senegal, Tanzania, and Korea. I have many international friends and am happy with different cultures I have experienced.
Also, I've met plenty of domestic students who do not fit into the stereotypical image of a Conn student in terms of ethnicity and socioeconomic status.
It is true that many Conn students come from stereotypical "WASP New England families." However, I think that the school's diversity is often underrated.
I hope this helps! I will be happy to answer other questions or elaborate on the topic =D

to person who’s daughter is a freshman at conn:
what exactly is your experience with New London given your assessment that it’s “not the best town around” and your apparent satisfaction that “the college is insulated from it?” I have lived in New London for more than 25 years & I’d be pleased to educate you.

Details: My S graduated from there a few years ago and, as far as college towns go, I agree with lhr2545.

First, one cannot walk to the town; one needs a car to get there. One also needs a car to get to the closest mall.

Second, while there are a few restaurants in town, there are not many. When my son and his friends wanted to go out, they would usually cruise up to Mystic.

Third, on a Saturday night, if a student who is old enough to drink wanted to go have a beer, the choices in town were generally a little scuzzy. I’m thinking of the places on Bank St, Water St, etc.

Perhaps there’s another part of town that we and son never encountered. Can you enlighten us?
