Where is the "summer freshman class" staying?

My daughter might register for Summer Session II. If she does this, she'll be staying on campus during the second summer session, which would be from about 7-12-08 to about 8-18-08. Summer Session II housing is offered in Kinsolving or Duren.

Where are the freshmen who are in the "summer freshman class" staying? If she ends up doing Summer Session II, I wish she could be in the dorm with the "summer freshman class" people -freshmen are generally way more open to meeting new people. If the summer freshmen class is in Duren, that is definitely where she'd want to go.

If the summer freshman class is in Jester, what do you think, would Kinsolving be better than Duren for summer? Cheaper, a little bit closer to classes, cafeteria right there in the building, a little bit easier to meet people? Or is the air conditioning much better in Duren? I can't even imagine how hot it will be in Austin 7/12 to 8/18.

Thanks for any advice!

Summer freshman class people are in Duren or Kinsolving. Everyone who is taking classes or is living on campus during the summer is in Duren or Kinsolving.

Duren is right across the street from Kinsolving. I know Kinsolving is all-girls (at least during the normal school year), so if you want that, the choice is pretty easy. Duren is a nicer dorm, but honestly, there isn't a large difference between the two.

During the summer Kinsolving is co-ed.

Duren has private baths and costs more.
Kinsolving has community baths and costs less.

I was just wondering if the air conditioning would be better in Duren, since it is a newer building. I am from the frozen north and I can't imagine how hot it will be in Austin in August.

my d is a summer freshman admit and will be staying in SRD.
Other girlfriends of hers are also summer admits and are staying at
Hardin House

Just don't tell me they are avoiding the on-campus dorms because the on-campus dorms have underpowered air conditioning! :-)

For the summer, Kinsolving and Duren are co-ed. Freshman are assigned to whichever hall they choose. There are both connecting and community baths in Kinsolving. The air conditioning is great either place. For more information about summer housing go to: Division of Housing and Food Service - Summer!
