I’m Ok with the accounting part…I just can’t stand statistics!!! SO BORING! It just seems like my current bus. econ classes at UCI are just repetition of statistics…over, and over, and over, and over, and…:(

I’m bored so I’ll join this thread too

UC to UC Transfer

Current School: UCLA Biz Econ
College GPA: 3.74
High School GPA: 3.0 ish
SAT: 1450 ish
Leadership: some stuff

Applied for Haas.

In my opinion, UCLA Econ is better than Cal regular econ as we focuses on accounting and Big 4 actively recruits here…but i dont wanna start a fight. I’m applying for Haas mostly for personal reasons. Anyway, good luck to everyone!

Oh, I love stats. It’s so much better than accounting in my opinion. I’ve always been told that accounting is one of those things you need to succed…yet I am hoping to get a minor in Spanish

Ucla and Cal Econ are both great schools, we can leave it at that.

@ Transferuc

lolol no offense but minor in spanish is hella random for an econ major, but it’s refreshing to see someone that’s doing econ and pursuing something else they are also passionate about!..I’m glad you like stats tho because it never friggin ends! And yeah…accounting > stats for the real world ;)

Ya I took so much Spanish in CC it jus seems dumb not to get a minor. I may try to double major in poli sci too. I have to see if I get in first.

And I think we can say, regression models>accounting>the rest of stats

I only said Biz Econ is better because for banking departments such as equity research, derivatives, etc the knowledge of Accounting becomes extremely (or somewhat) important.

But if you are aiming for consulting, marketing or other more creative/traditional types of businesses…i guess a regular econ is enough to show your interest.

This is the order:

Business Admin > Business Econ > Econ

It does depend on what you want to do, but that is the order for me.

^business Econ at UCLA is a force to be reckoned with, but I think they are equal based on Cal recruiting from San Fran.

That being said I really would love to be a bruin.

I’m going to start a debate by saying this but,

business Econ> Econ > business admin.

My bias, my dad told me never to be a business admin major because his Econ guys usually preform better.

^
lolololol…like I said, it depends on what you want to do…For Example, I want to be an entrepreneur, so obviously Business Admin would be the most helpful to me and Econ would be the least helpful.

The econ guys usually perform better probably because the job they are doing is a job for an econ major…Business Admin jobs are more in the Management/Marketing realm than econ jobs…Econ jobs are more financial/mathematical in nature to begin with…Both majors pay well, it just depends what you want to do…

Also…there is a reason why it’s so much harder to get into Haas and now UCI’s Business Admin Program than it is to get into an Econ program ;)

A lot of us that want Business Admin have to settle for Business Econ and last resort, Econ.

^low blow low blow.

We will agree to disagree because sooner or later a debate causes ■■■■■■ to come out of their caves.

That said, my friend got into merage out of high school last year, I don’t know why he didn’t go. Seems like it could be a great program soon.

^
hahahah you started it!

no hard feelings either way :)

Let’s just get into the schools first hahahahh

^
now your talkin’! Hope you get in where you wanna go! :)

"This is the order:

Business Admin > Business Econ > Econ

It does depend on what you want to do, but that is the order for me."

LOL!!! I guess this is ranked on easiness?

In reality I would say it goes like this:

Math/econ (or some equivalent major) > econ > business econ > bus admin.

Haters gonna hate but the reality is business admin is not an academic degree. Econ or econ/math (or some equivalent major) proves you have the brains (just like majoring in physics or engineering does, but on a lesser level) and shows that you have an interest, knowledge of business/markets.

I was a business major, until I figured out it is a fake, non-challenging major. Econ teaches you how to think. And having math skills opens up doors.

Sure a business major knows basic marketing, accounting, finance, and economics, but that is just it: a basic overview of business that everyone should know. Might as well go to a cal-state and learn business. You’ll probably get a higher ROR than a lot of Haas grads that end up being accountants.

I am an econ major who took accounting, might take marketing, and is currently taking business law. When I transfer, I plan on taking a crap-load of finance related classes or accounting classes to add to my arsenal.

I try to encourage people to switch to economics if they like it and are able to get it. And I don’t buy the notion that business admin majors will be better business people. That is BS and , quite contrarily, it is the opposite.

Just ask yourself, who are the managers of these firms? Most of them are econ majors.

And econ majors can network just as well!!!

^Every true economist knows that we want less economists as because as the supply of econ majors shifts inward…the wage econ majors are payed increases.

Shhhhhh don’t give away the secret.

"
Also…there is a reason why it’s so much harder to get into Haas and now UCI’s Business Admin Program than it is to get into an Econ program

A lot of us that want Business Admin have to settle for Business Econ and last resort, Econ."

This is the most ■■■■■■■■ crap I have ever read!-and clearly it is biased.

So just because a bunch of sheep walk off a cliff, we should follow suite? I hope you get my herd analogy. The only reason why business admin is impacted is it is easy. The reason why math has a 50+% acceptance rate is that it is hard. Math majors are arguably more intelligent than business majors and end up making more than most of these guys; a lot of them also end up going into business and other avenues.

The reason why there is a low acceptance rate for Haas (22%) is that they have X applicants for Y spots, where X greatly exceeds Y…

And I am sure we can see that this is true by looking at UCI.

And last time I checked, all these top performing hedge fund managers are math, physics or econ majors.

So your generalizations are wrong and annoying. But hey, why should I be telling you this? It would be in my advantage for you to go bus admin lol.

Econ is much better than bus admin. It’s true. Everyone please become econ majors so I have less competition for haas.

^ Can’t we all just be friends?

or at least let supply and demand decide.

Market Equilibrium>All majors.
