Where should i apply

Hi,
I want to do a comp sci/engineering major. My current marks for 9th-11th is around 78%
12th has not started

I'm doing SAT in june expecting 2000 or so based on current progress.
I want to go to a large/medium size college and pref with good and comprehensive meal plans.

My parents will fund me up to around $220,000 for 4 years.
I prefer California or Chicago since i have family in those states but elsewhere is OK if it is substantially better.

My reco letters will be good, if i make it abroad school has REALLY good advertising since its a new school. I am the 3rd graduating batch and my mom is the principal

I am also considering majoring in biology or physics in addition to this (I really like genetics and particle physics)
Thanks,
Arjun Krishnan

Obviously you reccos will be good.

Dude, you want to do comp. engineering and then want to work in either cali or chicago. UIUC should be your obvious first preference here. It’s real good for CS and places 80% of it’s grads in Cali/Chicago area.

It meets all your conditions:

LARGE college
A Top 3 CS department
Really awesome Physics dept. if you wanna switch later
Costs around $200,000
2000 is the average SAT score for UIUC

Check out the following schools:

Stanford, Harvey Mudd, Northwestern, Berkeley, Columbia, UPenn, Brown, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, MIT, Harvard, CalTech, Michigan, Princeton, Rice, UCLA, Georgia Tech, UIUC, University of Washington.

Many of those schools are out of reach for the OP based on predicted SAT.

I really wish i could go to those colleges. I don’t even have the balls to apply to most.
@compscifan
UIUC sounds good Problem is I need to convince my dad he’s adamant I apply only in California and Chicago My aunt lives in Cali and mom’s aunt lives in Chicago . To convince my dad it needs to be a really good college.

In California which UC would you suggest? Berkley is a little out of reach :(

UIUC’s like a couple of hours from Chicago.

1) You won’t find a good engg. college in Chicago.
2) Really Good engg. colleges in Cali are out of your reach.

Annd anyway, do you plan to meet your family members/relatives everyday once you’re in your college ? Why is this even a factor ?

Oh and UCLA seems an OK match. It’ll be around 220k

@compscifan

OK so il forget about Chicago
Isn’t UCLA considered good?

I dont plan on meeting them everyday, or even every month but my dad is saying

Go to college board or college data. These 2 site will help you explore your options in terms of your locations as well as matching your SAT scores as well as school scores. Try to do some homework yourself and impress your parents with firsthand knowledge, it will go a long way in getting their whole hearted support and encouragement.

Sorry, I kind of just skimmed through your first post. Um, I still think you have a decent shot at half of those schools provided you aim slightly higher on your SAT.

PM me if you need help with your apps. I’ll be active on CC for at least another week.

Good luck! :)
