Where should I find scholarships for next year when I'll be a college sophomore?

I applied to many scholarships when I was a high school senior. Now that I am a college freshman, I am not sure if the scholarships sites I used are still eligible for a college student.

Is there any recommended sites for college sophomore scholarships? Can I still use the sites that I used last year?

Are there less sophomore scholarships than there are for freshman? Because the scholarships that I got are all one-year scholarships.

Oh, and another thing. When do you guys start applying for scholarships, generally?

Most scholarships for continuing students will be through your school. There are very few outside scholarships for continuing students.

I hope you don’t need outside scholarships in order to afford to stay at your school. Most outside scholarships are for incoming freshmen.

As swimcatsmom says…at this point, look to see if your major dept offers any scholarships.

Also check whether your college alumni association or student association offers any scholarships to continuing students.

What if the student is considering a transfer? Would the transfer school provide financial aid as I’ve read that some schools provide even more financial aid to a transfer student since they are clearer about their goals. Or is the process geared toward keeping students at their current school because, whether a sophomore or a transfer student, the likelihood of getting institutional financial aid is virtually nil?

Most schools provide less to transfer students. The most generous merit scholarships offered by most schools are to attract freshmen. Schools do often offer transfer scholarships but they are usually much less generous than their best freshman scholarships. For instance my daughter’s school has several generous merit scholarships for freshmen. The 3 best ones include full tuition waivers and varying amounts of cash that can be used for other expenses. Their best transfer scholarship is a partial tuition waiver that just covers a small portion of tuition and nothing else.

I am going to bump this up because I’d like to know more too!
