Where should I go to college???

Hey guys okay so Im panicking like crazy on my college search because applications are right around the corner. I’m an male international student and I really want to go to America but the problem is it seems nearly impossible. I like the Northeastern area of the United States because a lot of the high rated schools seem to be located up there. I want a school thats known as a great place and will accept me despite being an international student. The next problem is I’m not eligible for financial aid since I’m an international student, but is there some place that could somehow help me? Either with lower tuition, or grants and scholarships given to people like me.

So could you guys give me some great universities that are known and successful, while still being a realistic shot for me?

Here are my EC’s and stuff if it matters:

SAT score of 1400 (English isnt even my first language though)
GPA of about 3.7
Salutitorian
Citizenship Award in 11th Grade
Student Government President of my class

Been working since I was in 9th grade

Fluent in Porutguese, Arabic, and English

Thanks a lot

“high rated” is somewhat subjective as there are many great schools scattered throughout the US. What may be considered important to one person may not be important to you… It really comes down to what you are looking for out of your college experience. Don’t limit yourself to the northeast as you might be doing yourself a huge disservice.

First and foremost, what do you want to study?
What type of atmosphere are you looking for (busy, laid back, nerdy, party, study)?
Location (weather, country/mountain/city)?
Size (small, medium, large)?
Private or Public?

I’m interested in the medical field and I like a place with all the seasons like where it would be hot in the summer but also snow in the winter. I feel like private schools will be wayyy too expensive for me considering I’m not eligible for financial aid bc I’m an international student. Hope this helps thanks

What is your SAT breakdown?

450 in writing, 420 in CR, and 530 in math

Can you try retaking the SAT? Maybe taking the ACT?

No I can’t  do you guys know any colleges or give me any specific names though??

If you are interested in the medical field (as in medical school) coming to the US for your undergraduate education is a bad idea. US medical schools have very few spots for internationals and offer virtually no financial aid. Most international med students come here for residency (that is, after they have finished medical school in their own country.) That’s the route you should consider if you are serious about medicine.

In addition, given your current test scores and high financial need, I would say you have very little chance unless you are coming from a country that is unusual: An African country for example. If you are applying from India, China, Nepal, Korea or most European countries, it’s probably not worth the cost or effort to apply. It’s not just your low language score, which would get a pass at some less selective places, but your low Math score as well. Many international applicants with high financial need have much higher Math scores. I’m sorry this isn’t what you wanted to hear.

I think between your low SATs and your financial situation (in need of aid) that you would do better to research schools in your home country.

There just arent schools here that would be affordable for you with your stats.

Also…med schools here rarely accept int’ls, so that would be another problem.

Most in’tls who come to the US for their education have parents who pay all costs. The in’tls who get scholarships, have much higher stats.
