My S is a junior in east coast looking for a CS school - any advice?
33 ACT (34 in Math and Science)
4.4 GPA, several AP
Not afraid of hard work
Plays varsity sports, volunteers
Interested in a modern up to date computer science building and program
Open to location, but not all the way to west coast
Not a type A personality, Doesn’t want a party school (he’s missing out!)
There are literally tons of schools that could work here - I think narrowing your search first may be more helpful.
Does school size matter?
Would we want a tech school with an imbalanced gender ratio?
In terms of location, does city/rural/college town matter?
Is he looking for more tech or LAC or doesn’t care?
Does he actually plan to play sports in college?
Wants to be close to city vs rural
Likes schools w amenities, so maybe 5,000+
Wants to play club or intramural soccer for fun
Liked GT, Hopkins, and Case so far
For Boston alone, MIT, Northeastern, and BU are all schools to check out for CS.
U of Michigan, CMU, and RPI are some other great options for CS that fit many of your criteria.
