TYPE of SCHOOLS....now i dont really know what schools i should/can be looking at but here are some that i like and the reasons:

U of ROchester- open curriculum, challeneging workd w/ smart student body
BRown-same as above but smarter!!
BArnard-i love the city
NYU-GAllatin- a mixture of U of R and BArnard
Carnegie mellon- joint social science degree with Bachalor of fine arts (the BHA...bachalor of humanities and arts)
Bryn Mawr-like BArnard and i like the idea of a womens college but with men nearby
U of chicago
Cornell
bowdin
mount holyoke

ok...so i am reaching for the moon......let me know what u think/ where u think i should go...i am intrested in colleges that have interdisciplinary programs or majors (american studies counts!)

thanx

I know we all crave CC attention...
Brown-super reach, (grades & test scores would keep you from being competitive in the applicant pool)
U. of Chicago-reach (again grades and test scores, but this school can be kind of weird sometimes, so if you want UChi just make sure you show it and highlight your passions)
Cornell-super reach (same as Brown)
Barnard-match
NYU-match
Bryn Mawr-match, also did you know they have a consortium with swat and haverford....check that out
Bowdoin and Mt. Holyoke-also matches

PS-Get your SAT scores up!

thanx yeah i am ****ed about those...my pratcice tests were above a 2100....err..anyway thanx

any recomendations for other schools??

haha we're pretty alike. Jews with moms who went to Barnard. After that, we arent :P

I'd say if you got in the 2000s on the SATs:
U of ROchester- Match
BRown- Reach
BArnard-Match
NYU-GAllatin- Match
Carnegie mellon-Match
Bryn Mawr-Match
U of chicago Probably Reach
Cornell Slight Reach, i think you could get in
bowdin Match
mount holyoke Match

And for Bryn Mawr, since i live like 5 mins. from it, there are plenty of guys: Haverford, Penn, etc.

Barnard should be pretty safe as a legacy. How about Scripps as a W coast version of the girl's lac that's not too hard to get into.

schools like bowdoin and connecticut college, which dont require SATs

Smith is all girls and has an open curriculum (like Brown and U of R.) Like Mount Holyoke, it's close to co-ed schools like Amherst, Hampsire, and U-Mass.

I think it's slightly harder to get into than Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr.

I'll be attending there in the fall. :)

thanx for all the input...smith seems a little to close to home since i live in noho...(hence i am able to take clases at amherst college)

oh and any suggestions for other schools..safties..low matches etc

bump (sry to be bothersome)

barnard would be more of a slight reach i think. average SAT score this year was a 1400 with a 3.9 unweighted GPA. i'm not sure how much the legacy helps you, but i wouldn't count on it as a match. it's getting a lot more competitive, but it's an amazing school and i'm going there this fall. yay!

we looked at a lot of the same schools though so maybe i can give you some suggestions. look at colby, carleton, macalester, wesleyan, vassar, maybe.

She'll get into Barnard way before Colby, Carleton and Wes!!!!!

esp. w/ legacy

into barnard before colby? i don't see why. and i agree that carleton and wes are reaches for her, perhaps more so than barnard, but i still think she should look into them.

tankx for the input do u really think bowdoin is more of a match?

"High School: elite well-respected public school in a college town 98% of students go to 4 top tier year colleges"

This is an important factor. What the OP needs to do is meet with GC and review her school's scattergram of acceptances by GPA / SAT at colleges of interest. This will provide actual data on how much various colleges 'like' her hs. For example, a 3.6 would be quite low for Bowdoin or Carleton - but if her school is well respected, it may be ok. Without this knowledge, I would say that the list is quite top-heavy.

Many schools are revaluing the importance of legacy admits, so I would try to find out as much information on how much of a tip factor is is - currently.

thanx..gd pt ohio mom...keep the feedback coming..and again i am open to suggustions

how can you plan on your sat score?
