I’m living at Leonardtown apartments next year so I will be taking green bus to campus. I want to go buy my own groceries to avoid the expensive meal plan. I’m not sure where to buy them but I do have Target at PG mall in mind. I don’t have a car so I’ll be relying on the bus service.
There is a new Whole Foods that opened up nearby recently, but I’m not exactly sure where it is.
If you don’t have a car, hopefully one of your roommates will. I used to live in Leonardtown (but not in this century, haha) and it was never an issue getting groceries - we kind of went together as an apartment shopping trip. For fill-in stuff, there is a quickie-mart kind of shop in the Leonardtown center (I even used to work there part-time!).
There are lots of options, with the main supermarket I used to frequent being the one in the shopping center down past the IHOP on the left of Route 1 (drawing a blank on the name at the moment but by IKEA).
Nowadays there is a Trader Joe’s within a 15 minute drive on Columbia Pike in Silver Spring, there is a MOM’s (Maryland Organic Market) natural food grocery store on Rhode Island Ave in College Park, as well as other options. If you don’t have a car, you can opt for delivery using either a store’s own delivery service (some do have) or PeaPod delivery service https://www.peapod.com
FYI, Whole Foods just opened also, so that’s another great option! It’s 2 miles south of campus on Route 1…

If none of your roommates have a car, you can always rent a zip car to get to any grocery…http://www.zipcar.com/universities/university-of-maryland
If you have Amazon Prime you can get groceries delivered
