You’ll probably remember me as the guy who bought a nice hybrid SUV for college. Well, unfortunately, this has come to slightly bite me in the behind. And no it isn’t for financial reasons, it’s rather for storage reasons. I have a nice spot for my old Volvo but the new one needs access to a plug to charge the hybrid system. According to campus security, there are no spots on-campus parking lots that have access to charging stations. So my options are the following:
Run an extension cable from my room to the car
Park it off campus to charge but its more of a hassle to get it.
Park it a storage locker to charge and secure it.
I’m running out ideas on how to solve this dilemma. I’m hoping someone here has a hybrid of any kind on campus that can provide me with some ideas.
Well…my suggestion…leave the hybrid at home and don’t even bother with it while you are in college. Take your old junker Volvo to college…it’s gas powered, right? That way you won’t have to worry about damaging a brand new expensive car (your idea of putting cones around it was not going to fly). And the whole charging issue will be a non-issue. Let your parents use that hybrid car. You can use it on school vacations.
Or since the new car is a hybrid, it also uses gas…so since you have no way to charge it…use gas.
Well this “can’t” be the only hybrid on the entire campus. He also can’t run long wires to the car since first off there probably aren’t any long enough and two public safety.
So the only “logical” thing to do is petition the school to build a recharging station that is very convenient for him to get to. I would also request maybe a covering so he and the car doesn’t get wet in bad weather. . Maybe even climate control? It’s the least the college can do to make this student happy. What else are they going to use their endowments for? Education?
