We will be visiting on a college road trip in February with my D15. Have signed up for a 9am tour and info session. Since it will be just about lunch time when we finish, any suggestions on places to eat along Main St?

Thanks!

lots of great places… the best thing about Udel is it’s dining options… If you like mexican California Tortilla (Cal Tort as the kids call it) is great and in the heart of main street action. If you want a sit down meal that’s more upscale we loved Taverna that is across from the Walgreens The meltdown is yummy and Kondike Kates is popular as well.

I would agree with lefty1 that there are a lot of very good restaurants to eat lunch at on Main Street in Newark. A number of students eat lunch at many of them. IMHO the restaurants with the most UD “flare” include Panera Bread, Grotto Pizza, Kildare’s Pub, and especially Newark Deli and Bagels and Klondike Kates (one of my favorites and IMHO is the epitome of a college Pub environment). A little fancier place would be Caf

We like Klondike Kates a lot. Ironhill Brewery was also nice. It’s across the street. Enjoy! It’s a fabulous school:)

My goal is to hit every Main Street eatery before my daughter’s graduation! Here’s another vote for Home Grown - they have some unique offerings and everything always tastes fresh. Iron Hill is good for anything from appetizers to entrees.

If you park in a Newark city lot, make sure to ask for validation tickets before you leave the restaurant!

Thanks for the ideas! Will check them out. The easy access to the restaurants will probably be a plus in Delaware’s favor in my daughter’s eyes!

Another great option of a place to eat is the dinning hall on campus. I might sound crazy since it isn’t a real restaurant but your child might like trying the food she is gonna be eating for the next four years to see if she likes it.

^ RE: the dining halls.

On our accepted student visit, we received passes for the Russell dining hall during lunch. It was a good way to evaluate the food and setting.

Then we went to the Iron Hill Brewery for dinner!

I thought about eating at the dining hall. Maybe if she gets accepted there and we go back for a 2nd look we will eat in the dining hall.
