Hey guys! This is probably a really silly question, but where did you guys get your bedding?

I was planning on just buying some at bed bath and beyond or some other furnishing store but then I got this catalog in the mail that said not all regular sheets will fit NYU beds, and that only a certain size from their company will fit properly. If I don't want to order from that catalog, what size/type/brand should I buy when I'm looking for new sheets?

you have to get extra long. it has to specifically say “extra long twin” or it won’t fit on the bed.

i got mine at Target. as it gets closer to august, all of the usual suspects (Target, Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond) will stock extra long twin sets.

i just bought myself a cute set of polka dot sheets a few hours ago!

Don’t order from their company, as the bedding is cheap and terrible. Do as missamericanpie said and just get Twin Extra Long. There will be plenty to choose from in “Dorm Shopping” sections come August.

Since I move into the dorm July 5th I just bought mine today. It was harder to find than if I was shopping in August. Walmart that I went to didn’t have any but my friend went to another one that had a few. I ended up finding one at TJ Maxx.

Twin Extra Long. Do not get Twin. Bed Bath and Beyond, Linen and Things, TJ MAxx, Marshalls, Target, Walmart, etc. all have twin extra long. I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond. Look around. Don’t order the silly NYU linens. I don’t know anyone who did!!!

We just learned that you can shop at your local Bed Bath & Beyond, and the order will be ready for pickup at the store closest to your school on move-in day. Let them know you’re dorm shopping and they’ll hand you a scanner. Go around the store, scan the items you want, and let them know when/where you want to pick up your order. This is a particularly convenient option, since we’re flying across the country for the move-in. There are several stores that are within a cab ride’s distance of NYU.

I receive a 20% off coupon every month from BB&B. I think I got on the mailing list originally when I submitted a change of address with the US Postal Service. It looks like you can sign up at BB&B’s website for coupons by mail, including a one-time 20% off coupon.

I like Target, too. That’s been our most convenient option for our older daughters. They have a great dorm department, and the price is just right. I don’t think there’s a Target really near NYU, though, so unless you’re going to pack up your purchases and take them with you, it might not be an ideal option.

If you’re looking for really nice quality at a good price, check out Overstock.com. I’m a total Overstock addict. ;-)

I bought mine at TJ Maxx but I went to Bed Bath and Beyond to buy other things and they had extra long twins there too. I got some great Navy Ralph Lauren linens for 14 bucks :)

thanks, this was really helpful! I’m flying from SoCal too, and I wasn’t sure whether to buy bedding here or in NY. where do you pay for the items you scanned by the way?

We haven’t done our shopping yet – waiting to make contact with the new roommate(s) when the assignments are sent out. I was wondering the same thing.

I didn’t see the answer on BB&B’s website, but a post from 2007 on CC says you pay at pickup and can use coupons.

also, on move in day there are buses that go to and from bed bath and beyond every 20 min or so and they close off the store for nyu students. my suitemates and i went even though we had all overpacked but it was reassuring that we could get anything we had forgotten or found we wanted (shelves for the bathroom, mirrors, cleaning spray, etc)

not that i recommend it but everyone makes a big deal about the extra long beds and i did just fine last year with normal length twin sheets. they had to stretch a little but i found it wasn’t as big a deal as people made it out to be.
