Where to Go? IS anything a Sure thing.

Hello, I'm a Seinor and I'm looking where to go and Where to apply to.

Here's my Resume

Best SAT scores overall, 1860
Math:630
Verbal:610
Writing:620
I'm taking them again in October and my hope is that if I buy an SAT study guide I can get them up to a 1900 or better but I'm not going to raise my hopes too high.

I'll probably have a 92-94 Average. And more importantly I'm taking the Best Classes Offered. So AP english and the Rest are Honors classes. and 4 years of Spanish.

My weekness is My Extra Curriculars and Activites.

9th- Basketball
10th-Baseball
11th-Basketball
12th- Basketball--no letters

25 hours of Community service for My Confirmation-but that's about it.

Hobbies/Activities--nothing worth mentioning,

I am currently looking for my first Job so Hopefully I can at least put a couple of Weeks work into my Applications.

Here's my list and I'd VERY MUCH Appreciate any FeedBack

West Virginia- I'm hoping this can be my safety School based soely on my SAT scores

Penn State- Sort of Confident on that but not sure since the essay has to do

with one of your activites. Maybe I'll just make up some crap about Basketball. even though the main thing that I like is my Harry Potter Discussion Forum I'm like at top 30 amount of posts out of like 10,000 members( I hope nobody laughed because HP is Awsome). And so that is what I really like to do, chat about the books and whatever BUT I really don't think Colleges would Accept that as a Hobby even though it technically is something that I spend alot of time doing like over the summer I was probably spending 15 hours or more a week doing that (yes I'm a little obsessed). I'm thinking they'ed even Reject me just because of that so I am PROBABLY NOT going to even mention that because I'm too uneasy about that. If you think otherwise please say so.

I need some HELP on these schools, like could I get in on just my grades and belove avergae EC's

Depaul
University of Illionois-Urbana Champagne
U-Conn
Virginia Tech
William and Mary
University of Delaware
Notre Dame-probably not but I'm thinking of applying just to say I tried.
UNC
Wake Forest
Any slim, slim, slim chance at all, at Cornell
ANY OTHER RECCOMENDATIONS Please.

Thank You if you read this far, and I'll thank You in advance for the Advice.

Man, if colleges accepted posting on forums and being on the internet as EC I could get into MIT 8-)

UNC, wake forest, Cornell, Notre Dame are all reaches

Thanks, I guess that rules out those except the ND application Just in case they like Somehow lose a few in the mail :) lol
So as for these other ones, is anything a slight reach/match/ or sure thing., I only really looked into Penn State and West Virginia.

Penn State
West Virginia
Depaul University
U-Conn
University of Illionois
Virginia Tech
William and Mary
University of Delaware

Depaul: match
University of Illionois-Urbana Champagne: match
U-Conn: match/slight reach
Virginia Tech: match/slight reach
William and Mary: BIG reach if you're out of state- plus, if you like all these super huge state schools (ie WVU and PSU), are you sure you'll like W+M?
University of Delaware: reach if you're out of state
Notre Dame: yeah, you know- big reach.
UNC: reach out of state
Wake Forest: reach/maybe match..depending on the essay/recs you can get

That is my totally unqualified opinion haha. If you like huge state schools, have you looked into the University of Maryland? What about Temple (if you like cities)? JAMES MADISON in Virginia is about the size of UDel and a little bit easier to get into (beautiful campus too). If you want any other suggestions just ask :)

I actually don't really care about a big university. something average like 4,000 to 15,000 UnderGrads would be just as good. I just wanted something that was highly respectble and where I knew I had a good chance of getting into.

For example I was almost Certain I was going to apply to Lehigh, but I read on StudentsReview that it was mainly an Engenierring School with nothing much to do except get drunk. lol

I also made up my mind I was not going to apply to schools NOT in the Princeton Review Top 361 schools. I figured anyone with SAT scores over 1800 should be able to get into a good amount of those schools.

I will look into James Madison. I really just wanted a School, with good Technology(meaning a good computer lab, library, high-speed internet etc), Good Food, Good Housing, A Good Gym and a Good Education. So I guess with most big universities your are almost guaranteed to get that stuff,, RIGHT????

Also do you know anything about McDaniel College,, my cousin went there.

EDIT::::OH MY GOODNESS Thank You sooo much. I just put in James Madison into Princeton Review and it is in the BEST CAMPUS FOOD Category. I am 100% sure I will apply there just based on that reason alone. Although it is also in the top of students dissatisfied with Financial Aid,,,, But I'll see what Happens.

You may have changed my Future, and My LIFE. That is kind of Scary to think about but Ture.

ANOTHER THING: My school is kind of Small and I only have 120 kids in my grade, Do they look into something like that. Because I know for a FACT that if there were more Options I'd definatly have alot more EC's. I was really ticked that we Have NO NEWSPAPER..What's up with That. ((Like we have no Tennis//Mens VolleyBall// Newspaper//Soccer///Debate or Any other clubs like that)) we have like Science Club and French Club and that's probably 1/3 or the clubs that we have. So do colleges look into stuff like that. For example I'm really hoping they look into the fact that I took the Highest Classes Offered. Like I said, AP English 11th and 12th is the only AP classes offered.

I Don't mean to be over-advice Asking but What about EARLY DECISION to like Notre Dame, UNC, Wake Forest or Cornell. On the site it said Don't apply early decision if this is just you First Choice School. But were they just lying or am I just kidding myself on my chances. I figure I should apply to some schools that I know I will probably not get into, because there always is some slight slight chance,, even if it's Smaller then Small. You only do this once and I don't want to have any regrets. So if I write say the Best Essay that they've ever Read,, then they might give me some consideration even if I realistically am 98% sure I will not get accepted there.

if u apply ED somewhere it shows extreme interest in the school so thats gonna give u a bit of a boost

OK so here is my list could you pleas rank as Safety/Match/Reach etc..

Penn State
West Virginia
Depaul University
U-Conn
University of Illionois
Virginia Tech
William and Mary
University of Delaware
James Madison
Notre Dame--Early Decision.

Thank You

bumb, Safety/Match/Reach

bumb Any input?????

if you want a newspaper, you should start one yourself :D

The sad thing is that There was a Newspaper Class for 11th and 12th graders BUT the Year I was eligable to join the Teacher left and For some reason and they didn't start it UP. I think they said there wasn't enogh people or something like that.

A little over 1/3 of the students in my school are RED-NECKS.

One teacher actually tried to start up a Newspaper last year and There was only like 5 people that showed up activity period that were actually serious about Writing the Paper. and this year, They didn't have the class, Probably because not enought people joined.

bump,,, Chances?????? on the above schools.

sorry, i don't have an advice or anything, but I am curious to what people say are your reach/match/safety schools because our stats are similar...Notre Dame is a big reach though, and it is definitely on the religious/conservative side, but if you are into that then maybe you should go for it.

Penn State- match
West Virginia- extreme safety
Depaul University- dont know enough
U-Conn- match
University of Illionois- match
Virginia Tech- dont know
William and Mary- also dont know
University of Delaware- match/ reach
James Madison- match
Notre Dame--Early Decision- reach
