Kind of sort of seriously freaking out because I didn't even really think about housing. Anyone know about where you should live at SB?

I noticed that the school's website says transfer students are guaranteed housing in "university-owned accommodations" but I have no idea if that's good or bad or...

I admit I haven't visited the school yet. I've been to the area and totally loved it though. It's my second choice (after LA!). I haven't thought about the housing stuff because I wanted to actually find out if I could even go to LA--in which case I might be forced to commute D:<

But yeah. Any advice would be cool!

It basically means you’re guaranteed housing in either a residence hall or a university owned apartment. You don’t have to live in either of those and you can choose to live in isla vista, the college community that is within biking distance of the school. LA is my 1st choice and SB is my backup, but if I end up going to SB I’m going to try to live in a residence hall.

I’m going to live in family housing. I wish I knew which one was the best, there’s three :-/

Well I can’t speak for the apartments or anything, but I do know a bit about the res halls. I’m (hopefully) going to live in Manzanita Village next year. It houses mainly upperclassmen

San Rafael houses a lot of transfers and is next to Manzanita. Both are very close to both the beach, IV, and Carrillo dining commons. That area is also host to a pool and volleyball court

Omg this is so confusing D:

I really want to live on campus (whether in a hall or apartment) since I’d be totally new to the area and I’d want to meet people. I heard that when people transfer and live off campus, they don’t really get opportunities to socialize as well (for any UC).

So are San Rafael and Manzanita the best halls? I’d definitely want to be with upperclassmen lol Are halls better than apartments?

No apartments are on campus. But some in IV are really close.

I can’t say if the res halls are ‘better’ than apartments, but I prefer them. And for a transfer, I’d say your best options would be San Rafael or Manzanita.

Like I said, I can’t really speak for the apartments. I’m a freshman and I live in a res hall.

Res halls allow you to be more social and meet plenty of new people. They offer the quintessential college experience and I would suggest you live in a hall. If you live in apartment you’re going to have to cook and clean for yourself and apartment life might not be as social as dorm life unless you make a serious effort.

If i end up going to SB i’m going to live in a house in IV. Might as well get the whole experience

^ Damn going all out huh???

If I didn’t have kids, I’d live in a house in IV for sure!!! You will have a blast!

Okie res hall def :D

A house in IV? What’s IV? D:

Lol I’m sure I told you already, if not then IV stands for Isla Vista, the college community within biking distance of the campus. Its where all of the parties are held and has all of the mom and pop businesses that cater to college students.

Ohh thanks! I remember it from your post but for some reason I kept reading “IV” as “four,” not… “i” and “v” lol

haha its cool! and yea if LA ends up rejecting me I’ll opt to live in a dorm my first year then move out to a house in IV with the friends I’ve made living in a hall.

I already got on the wait list for family housing. It says on my application status 3-8 months and they will have a spot for me. I hope it’s closer to 3 than 8!!!

Wait so… San Rafael, Manzanita, or IV? D: Pros/cons anyone?

Sorry for the info suckage >>

Omg I hate how you can sign up right now cough What about the people who are still waiting D: ? For SB or even the others? I mean, I’m in but there’s pesky LA…

Manzanita is supposed to be one of the newer and therefore nicer dorm complex. I dont know too much about San Rafael though. Living in IV seems like it would be quite an experience but like the apartments you would have to cook and clean for yourself. Furthermore, I think IV is kind of ugly imo. Just go onto the school website and look at the different floorplans and see which one you like best. Also try to go through previous years threads in regards to housing for SB and if you still want more info go onto college *******, a website that allows students to rate their colleges and look up the reviews for the campus and the on/off campus housing. I hope this helps lol

wow it censored the website name… college relworp, you got accepted into sb you should be able to figure the name out…

Relworp whaaat I shall never figure this out :D

Thank you so much for the help! I didn’t really look at old threads because I was afraid I might screw myself over with old info or something lol But yeah thank youuuuu
