Is anyone living in non-USC affiliated off campus housing? I am searching for some apartment buildings and rooms to rent near USC, and I was wondering if there any areas that are better than others? There must be some people who aren't living in USC aprtments and housing especially 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years and transfers, where are you living? While I am still not 100% certain I will be going here, but if I can find a place to live rather cheap, then it will make the desicion alot easier. Anyone else still looking for a place to stay? Anyone want to split an apartment?
Thanks,
Kyle

bump
so am I the only one without a place to live?

I live on 37th street about 4 houses away from campus. It is not the best area, but it is quiet and very close. Most kids live down by jefferson street.

I may be looking for a place to live. I haven't started looking yet but will soon. So I may be interested in splitting rent.

Has anyone seen or heard anything about Finn apartments? I guess it is primarily for students. Or anything about Hoover apartments on Hoover street?
Thanks for the help

Kyle, check out Conquest at http://www.conquest-usc.com or CItyPark at http://www.cityparkusc.com/, trojanliving http://www.trojanliving.net/, and Nupac http://www.nupac.com/

Conquest skews towards expensive and nice while Nupac skews towards affordable but grungy.

However, if you're a new student here, I'd REALLY caution against living off-campus as it will be considerably difficult to meet new people and make a transition into USC much harder.

Thanks for the links Megastud, but all of those places are filled up (except Chateau Sera but don't want to spend $1000 for a studio). Trust me, living off campus wasn't my first choice, but since I am a transfer student, I just found out I was accepted about a week ago, and didn't really think I was going to get in, so I didn't apply for housing. Also, I live up north in Santa Cruz, and have only been down there once to check out the campus, so I really have no idea about the good and bad neighborhoods. As for meeting new people, yeah, that might be a little tough, but I am planning on joing a frat, and a couple student organizations, and will just have be more outgoing.
Thanks for the help and anymore opinions are greatly appreciated,
Kyle

Kyle, check the message board (by clicking the roommate link) on Conquest's website; it's a virtual classified ads section of people who have leases but need to fill their rooms. Get in contact with the most recent posters and see if they have availability. This is nice and easy too as you don't have to bear the lease responsibility.

I just got a place (studio) for $750. It's 2.9 miles north of campus, beautiful building, much better area than the one surrounding the university. They also have cheaper studios for a little under $600.

Hey Jobu, looks like you found a pretty nice place. Do you happen to know the name of the building or the street name. I have been looking into the Finn apartments and looks like it is about 1 block away from Martin Luther King Blvd, and pretty close to the museum, any opinions on this neighborhood? I was hoping to find a place close enough (within 3 miles) so I could ride my bike to campus, but have been told that the entire area around USC is not safe enough to do so. I know some of it is pretty bad, but I thought there were also some okay areas.
Thanks again, Kyle

Camaro_Kyle stick to as close as SC Campus as possible…IMO…some neighborhoods are better than others

i’ve been living in K-Town and its been pretty good but about 5-7 miles away

try to find something via USC Alternative Housing as most of the places (i’ve checked them out in person) is close to Campus…trying to get within walking distance myself =]

Ok, so it looks like I will be flying down to LA tomorrow and spending the weekend down there trying to find a place to live. I was hoping to find a place close enough that I would be able to ride a bike to campus, but it is not looking so good. Any last recommendations before I leave? Are there any specific buildings or streets that I should look for?
Thanks again for the help,
Kyle

I'm in the same boat as you. I applied for housing through the school and picked some obscure apartments that I thought nobody would be occupying. I dunno if that will work (I doubt it). But worse comes to worse, there are open apartments about 6 minutes away (driving distance) from USC that are quite nice, yet quite expensive at the same time.

there's www.losangeles.craigslist.org

great for all sorts of stuff

is anyone still looking for a roommate?

Hey student, check your PM's
