where to put letter of recommendation on common app?

I’ll definitely call them up.

I appreciate all your help. Your responses were all thorough and quick. Thanks again!

I am in the same shoes as you, currently a transfer student applying on the common app website. I was also confused on the school forms part because it said “offline,” but after doing some research I found this on the common app support page. hope this clears it up.

“If there is no Invite button on the School Forms page, it is likely your school is a Naviance (College Planner) member and the forms are filled out there. Or, you are a Transfer student and the forms are offline via paper. Please refer to the instructions on the School Forms page for further direction. You may also talk with your counselor for more information.”

Thanks^ However, i already submitted my app through the Suny website.

@lakemom- I just realized my letter of rec was handed to me in the form of a 2011-12 college instructor evaluation for common app.

Since i already applied to 4 suny’s on the suny.edu website, when i mail out the teacher rec, they will probably assume i submitted everything using the common app which i didn’t. Initially i intended on filling out everything using the common app, so i download the instructor eval. What do i do from here. Thanks

First, I would call the Suny admiss place and ask if they care if the rec is on a Common ap form. Print out the Suny teacher rec form and see if they are actually asking the same thing.

Ask the Suny adm person if it would be okay to write on the top of the Common rec one, something like. Please ignore the use of this common ap form. This student applied through the Suny admissions site instead.

Let them know you mistakenly started using the common app not realizing it was more straightforward to use the Suny one.

transfer students have to send in hard copies of letters of recs.

I got word that my applications for all applied school went through & they received them. Today i went over to the bursar office at my school to request they send my official transcript. I paid, made several copies of my lor & handed them a copy and they wouldn’t accept it. They say they would only take the original copy. WTH, Don’t i get to decide how i want to hand in my stuff? afterall, i paid them. Anyways, I gave them my original copy & now i am left with several unofficial copies of the lor. How am i suppose to hand in my lor to my other schools now if they only want hard copy (original). WOW, i am upset. Ill go tomm and take my chance with hopefully a different & positive person.

thoughts?

If you are only applying to Suny’s then doesn’t the one LOR go to the admissions place for all the Suny’s? So do you need to send other LOR?

Since your school now has your original, then they can make the copies if you need more sent right? I believe your school will keep the original in your file at least I think our school does. Just take in one of your copies to show them that this is a copy of the LOR original they have so it is clear to them what you want sent and ask them to make the copies.

Every school seems to have their own process.

I’m glad you are still active and well, Lakemom. :)

Yes, i am only applying to Suny. However, transcripts are sent out individually to the school’s address. I asked if they would make several copies of my lor but the registrar office don’t make copies. I rush to the library to make my own copies & as i prepare them for each school i applied for, the guy at the counter would only take the original copy. I still have the copies. I plan to take my chances tomm & give it a attempt. Is it appropriate to hand the colleges a copy instead of the original? After all, if they have any doubts, they can call the number provided on the sheet for verification. What do you think?

bump 10char

Good thing you did the bump kawsneffect, I didn’t see your post.

I would think you could mail a copy because schools can’t possibly mail out originals to all the schools a student applies to. What I think our school does is keeps the original in the file and makes copies as needed.

So yes, I would try to mail out the copies yourself as if your teacher had mailed them to the college if your school won’t. Find out exactly where they are supposed to be mailed to though as some schools want admission stuff mailed to a different address.

Post how things go tomm. Good luck!

Turns out they do take copies. The guy who didn’t was likely a first timer.

Thank you for your help, Lakemom. :)

For the transfer process, the system is difference, and actual hard copy recommendations are required, I think. I know my brother went through this.

My understanding is that for transfer, the recommendations don’t work the same way as for freshman applications and have to be sent in hard copy.
