Hi, I have a few questions regarding recommenders through commonapp.
My two other recommenders prefer to mail their letters in directly to the college, but are looking to me for the how to. I know common app provides a form, my question is do they fill out the form AND write a letter of recommendation? or just the form?

Also, one of my teachers couldn't figure out how to fill out the online form, so he wants to send in in through snail mail, too. My same question remains about the form and/or letter.
SHould I change his status to offline so they know he will be mailing it on or just leave it?

Any advice and answers are much appreciated! Thanks a lot! :)

The teacher evaluation form for common app requires the teacher to fill out the form. One part of the form is the actual recommendation. The teacher can use the space provided in the form for this or attach a separate letter of recommendation. Most provide a separate letter. When the eval form is submitted electronically, it is uploaded to the common app and submitted as part of the teacher eval form. For your teachers submitting on paper, they would just enclose the letter of rec with the completed form.

You should definitely try to change the status in your common app account of the teacher who is now trying to opt out. If he had known up front he was going to send by mail, that would have been easier - he could have simply opted out through his invite email. At this point, you might come across some technical glitches accomplishing that change. If he can still opt out through his invite email or his account, that is the simplest solution. Otherwise, you may need to invite him again using a slightly different name (Bill instead of William, for example) and then manage your recommenders to assign him through that new name.

Thank you. One problem is that I already submitted an application and did not change his status because I did not know he wanted to do it offline. Is that a huge problem? If he opts out via email will it change him to offline on the submitted application?
