Where to transfer to?

Hello everybody. I was hoping if somebody could help me out with potential transfer targets.

Current school: Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville
College GPA: 3.63
ACT: 27
Extracurriculars: Member of the Southern Illinois University Honors Society, Deans list, member of English Language teachers association, Junior Achievement (volunteer teaching) volunteer, summer job as at a local grade school, National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

My problem is I don’t know what tier university I could transfer to. I know you all cannot help me decide where exactly to transfer to but I honestly do not know how “good” a university I could transfer to. Many of the universities I’ve looked at show a minimum GPA of 2.0-3.0 to transfer. I know my GPA is good enough to submit an application but I honestly don’t know where I really stand a chance at with my stats. I’m from Illinois and most of the colleges I’ve been looking at so far are Midwestern colleges like University of Iowa, University of Illinois, Iowa State, etc…

I’m not sure exactly what I want to major in either. I know transfer chances can depend heavily on what program you are looking to transfer to. I was an English major at my previous college and would probably be looking to stay in a liberal arts and sciences program if that helps.

Also I have completed 53 credit hours at SIUE. I know the number of credits that transfers depends heavily on the target university but I know your completed credits does factor in to a transfer admission decision.

I’m sorry if this post is vague. I’m just having a hard time finding resources for transfer students that will help me decide where I could get in. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you and have a nice day

Could someone please give me a general idea if these schools are targets, reaches or whatever.

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
University of Iowa
Iowa State
Northwestern
Loyola at Chicago
Marquette
Case Western
University of Texas
University of Michigan
Michigan State
Any of the UC’s

I know this is all very dependent on what program I am looking to transfer to but I just want a general idea to try and narrow down my list

Bump

High Reaches: Berkeley, NW, Michigan,
Lower Reaches: case western, texas and UCLA

Target: Everything else ( i dont know enuf about the other colleges to gauge you into safety vs target)

I suggest looking at eh act ranges if ur a sophomore transfer and otherwise reading the transfer pages if you wud like to feel out where is best to apply.

I would also suggest university of Wisconsin or Wake forest if you like the mid west though they would be more difficult

The UC’s only accept Junior level transfers with 60 semester units/90 quarter units. ACT/SAT test scores are not considered. UCB/UCLA are Low Reaches especially if you are OOS and some of your units may not be UC transferable.

@Gumbymom So there I do have a chance with both UCLA and UCB? and does anyone know about the schools in the Midwest I listed? Northwestern would be great but I honestly don’t know if it would be worth the time and money to apply. From what I’ve seen, my GPA, ACT scores, and extracurriculars seem really weak for Northwestern

You have a good GPA but UCLA/UCB will be difficult as an OOS transfer. I suggest you post in the UC transfer forum where more knowledgeable posters can give you more information. Good Luck to you.
My one question for you: Can you afford the $55K/year price tag for the UC’s since you will get little to no financial aid?

@Gumbymom I assumed the admission standards would be higher for an OOS transfer. I know they have some sort of agreement with community colleges in California that must take up most of the transfer spots. And that is a good point about the tuition. I don’t think I could afford that tuition, especially with the little financial aid I would be given as an OOS transfer. I’ll probably be looking more at schools in the Midwest, since I am an Illinois resident

Can anyone tell me my chances for University of Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan or Texas?
