So I have been accepted into three schools for the spring : Chico State, Humboldt State, and San Francisco State. I am aiming to be a Molecular/Cellular biology major with a minor in botany. I have absolutely no interest in Chico state though I know its a good school. So I’m stuck between the other two which is Humboldt state and SF state. I am a Nigerian American girl who has lived near SF her entire life. I’m looking to get away from home but at the same time I want to make sure I take good classes. At SF they have a variety of classes to choose from, diverse community, and the atmosphere of ‘the city’. On the other hand, Humboldt is a beautiful campus surrounded by the redwoods. They have excellent biology programs and are one of the few colleges that actually offer Botany as a major/minor (elsewhere I would have to take plant biology). Going up there I will be on my own and I will get experience with taking care of myself. Plus I’ll be surrounded by the things that inspired me to minor in botany in the first place. I really don’t know. Please help!!
What does your financial aid package look like at each of these places?
What specific courses do each of these places offer? Whether the program is called “Botany” or “Plant Biology” is not important. What will matter for you is whether or not the coursework that you need is offered.
Which of these options would be the biggest challenge for you? Facing that challenge and giving yourself a chance to grow, might be what you need to do.
Due to my parent’s tax thing, I do not have a financial aid package from either school as of yet. San Francisco definately has more classes to choose from in terms of Molecular/ Cellular biology on the other hand Humboldt’s botony program has much more to offer that SF’s plant biology. If I go to SF I will be either living with my parents still or with roomates. If I go to Humboldt I will be completely on my own. I have never been on my own before. In terms of course work, SF may be more challanging but I’ve also heard alot about Humboldt programs.
I’m also transferring to SF as an Environmental Studies major, I plan to change back to Molecular Biology when I get there (I asked admissions and School of Sciences they said it was fine).
