I got a 2010 in my SAT which i assume is a decent score. Im not asking for financial aid at all and am planning on majoring in business. Assuming my grades are decent and that my Ecs are great with alot of community service ( the teacher who wrote my recommendation actually spoke about this service ) where can i actually expect to get in? Where would you have applied ??

if you are an international, and you don't want aid, you are in at:
University of virginia
University of michigan-ann arbor
University of califonia-all colleges(berkely and LA might be a match)

you even stand a shot at wharton, assuming you don't ask for aid. ivies like dartmouth and brown and cornell would be glad to have you. and you;re in at almost all the LACs and universities. It's coz universities and LACs, especially LACs, like to foster diversity, and they welcome internationals. infact they want internationals, but they don't want to spend money on them, so if you can pay full, you stand a great shot at most colleges and universities. and you have a decent sat score along with other excellent factors. congratulations.....
if you are planning for business, i would suggest UVa, or ann arbor, hands down. you are surely in at those colleges, if you can pay full.....

wharton would be a reach for you. and your reaches are -HYPMSC, and possibly berkely...research more into stern as well....

well here are the colleges i applied to.

Duke University(econ)
Johns Hopkins University(econ)
New York University(econ)
U Mchigan Ann Arbor(econ)
U Virgina
Georgetown University
University of Southern California
Emory University
Boston College
UIUC
U Wisconsin
Penn State (accepted already)

The reason i dint apply to ivies is that i already know atleast 3 people in mumbai who are applying to each ivy and all of them are better then me. Thats way to much direct competition and i wanteed to limit my applications to just 12.
and i got a 2010 in one sitting. If you supersore i get a 2050
are you serious about Umichigan and UVirgina??
all this time i thought i would have a tough time getting in. I also really wanna go to Emory, Georgetown and USC. How would i chance for those?
And how do i look for Duke (super reach)?

duke would be a reach. and nyu-stern is pretty tough, but since you are paying full, i guess you are in at nyu. definetely into all other universities, except perhaps georgetown, and johns hopkins, they are more of matches, not reaches though.. brown, cornell and dartmouth would be matches as well for your kind, they look to enroll international who can pay full. surely in at cornell, 2 years ago, someone i knew got into brown with a 1800 sat, and cornell accepts anyone who can pay(regarded they are international)...dartmouth has superb academics and will suit you. not so sure whether its good in business, but is definetly one of the best in the country....relax. you will surely get accepted at any of the colleges. emory and usc-90% in. you have higher shot at usc....best of luck..

Wisconsin, UIUC, Michigan and Virginia - you will most probably get in.
BC, USC - decent chance.

omg!! Now i wish i applied to cornell. Cornell was my dream school for so long untill i met my stupid cousellor who said that i have virtually no shot at getting into any ivy. DAMN IT!! theres no way i can apply now can i?
anyway...thanks alot guys i am so relieved now...
Anybody else...??

cornell is pretty lenient on internationals. you can definitely still apply...

trans_int007 : cornell/brown/dartmouth aren't so easy to predict. they are reaches for everyone.
aj16 - cornell was my dream school for well over a year. I applied ED and was rejected. :D

I still cant beleive ull think ill get in at U Mich and U Virgina...most of the admitted students have such great stats i actually thought it was virtually impossible...
and if it might affect my chances....im Indian...

*** is this true that you can get in with such low SAT scores (compared to ppl who got in) if you're an international who doesn't require any aid? ***! I should've applied then :@ in @ berkeley and all sounds pretty unrealistic to me.. can anyone "confirm" what trans int said? USC has a pretty low acceptance rate too (~25%).. hope I get in there atleast

Please tell us how you went with your admissions aj16. i'm very interested to see how you went, i'm not in a dissimilar situation to you, but applyin for 2009.

thanks

Huh? Is it just me or are you lot really overrating the OP's chances at most schools?

UVa, UMich and UCs are pretty tough don't you think? Or are the state schools REALLY trying hard to attract internationals?

^

That's what I thought :S

You're severely inflating his chances...

I'm feeling much better now

Haha glad to help :)

yea i know those cant really be my chances...however even realistically speaking what are my chances?? especially at UMich UVa and Emory...

All low reaches/high matches.

We can't really attempt to "chance" you with just your SAT score, y'know..
