Is it even available? I plan on fighting the freshmen 15 :D

I've looked and can't seem to find nutritional information for anything on the MP or various other on campus organizations. Here are the places you can find information for.

Subway

Saladelia (sold in Von der Heyden, French Science Center Cafe)
http://www.saladelia.com/wholesale/nutrition.aspx

McDonald's
http://www.mcdonalds.com/usa/eat/nutrition_info.html

Freshens Smoothies, Frozen Yogurt (sold at Alpine Bagels, Atrium)
http://www.freshens.com/index_to_nutrition.html

There are a few things in the Great Hall (Au Bon Pain soup, in particular) you can find nutrition facts for. The Loop also has a "Lite" menu in which they feature four dishes with limited nutrition facts (all of which are actually really good!).

You can definitely find really healthy options on campus....don't worry...I'm just like you. Definitely hit up Alpine's smoothies...wonderful. Subway and Saladelia are always great choices as well. The Refectory is my FAVORITE lunch place on campus...portion sizes are great and everything is good/good for you...I literally go M-Fri. If you pick and choose at Alpine Atrium you can find a good sandwich for lunch (my favorite is the Thai Chicken, Cold, no sauce).

When it comes to the Marketplace, they always have a salad bar/cereal/fruit available, so you'll definitely have the option to eat healthier. When it comes to the other stuff...probably not as good for you, but if you limit yourself and your portions you'll be fine. Don't go back for seconds...limit yourself to the dessert bar once a week...things like that. It's not the best food for you, but you don't get much of a choice as a freshman, so just learn to exercise portion control and tell when you're full!

This past spring, Marketplace had just put in a yogurt bar with plain, vanilla and strawberry yogurt and with granola, blueberry and raspberry topings... it was so good that they kept running out of it within an hour...it's also probably the most expensive single thing they're serving...

I'm not sure if the Marketplace has posted nutrition facts because they constantly serve different dishes and it would be impossible to keep up, but I'd say most of the things they constantly have are pretty easy to guesstimate. These are things like pizza, burgers, fries, salad bar, pasta bar, bread, cereal, cakes (mmm...) I'm not a nutrition expert, but I'm guessing that they'd be pretty close content-wise to a burger you might grill at home or spaghetti you (or your mom/dad) make. Some things are clear: salad... healthy; cheeseburger... not so much; Chinese food... salty.

I'm not kidding. I used to thing they would accidentally salt the food twice or something, but there's no way they could do that that many times in a row...

I personally liked the food at the MP... I think you will too.

How does lunch work at the marketplace, since it's not buffet style?

Thanks you guys.

it's a la carte. you have to choose among about 5 dishes. desserts, drinks cost extra, but overall i feel that lunch is more diverse than the other meals of the day. you also get a $5.25 discount on it if you do not eat breakfast that day. but if you do not eat breakfast or lunch on a given day, you lose your "click".
