Which AP's will save me the most money?

I am taking the AP exams for French language and Calc AB, and I'm wondering which one I should focus on. I already took Euro, and I got a 4 on that exam which I'm hoping will save me a grand or two. I'm an LSPer for CAS and I don't really know how that factors in so any help would be great.

I would say focus on both. If you get a 4 or 5 on Calc, you’ll get out of the math/science reqt. There is some advantage to doing well on the lang., I would have to look it up.

If you have/or are taking a fourth AP, it might be worth it to take the test. 16 credits will allow you to transfer after 3 sem.

calc. the french department isn’t that bad here (my roommate likes it) so it won’t be as annoying to take french here if you don’t test out on the AP.

you won’t get out of much with AB calc

This wasn’t too hard to find. From the Admissions Forum:
"Secondly, here is where your AP credits will most likely be awarded, providing you score a 4 or 5:

AP Lit and Comp - Expressive Culture (liberal arts)
AP Spanish - Liberal Arts Elective
AP Calc BC - Math/PreCalc liberal arts)
AP Gov - Con West (liberal arts)
AP Psych - Liberal Arts Elective
AP Microecon - Liberal Arts Elective

Regardless of receiving a 4 or 5 on these exams, NYU will award you 4 credits per exam."

The above was in response to someone asking about the particular AP courses he took. NYU probably takes most.

You should probably call Admissions or the LSP Advising Center and see if they would award you the LSP math/science credit for the AB exam.

ouch, you’re right. i thought it was BC. . .

So wait…if you get like a 2 on the exam…?

missamericanpie, can you elaborate on the foreign language process? It looks like you need to be proficient enough to speak at the level of completion of second semester intermediate…

Wait, wait. I have an older sheet of equivalencies and it does give a certain course equivalent for Mathematics AB. So there will be some credit given. The OP needs to call and see if LSP will waive him the science/math reqt though…

Also, just found this too. CAS specifically.

http://www.nyu.edu/cas/map/exemptions/

The Quantitative Reasoning component can also be satisfied with approved AP credit or by completing an approved department course:

AP credit for Calculus (Mathematics AB or BC)

wait I went to the side and it says I get exemption for taking either AB or BC exams. From what the site said it seems like Calc is worth it so I think I’ll focus on that test.

The French placement exam is essentially an SATII. Just keep that in mind.
