I’m in a bit of weird situation… I graduated in 2017 and committed to NYU on EDII agreement. I decided to defer my enrollment and take a gap year for personal reasons so basically, I’ll be enrolling this fall. I took calculus in high school because my high school did not offer AP but it covered what is on the AB calc exam. I did well in the class and I thought of taking the AP exam this may to get some credit so I signed up for it. Then a few weeks later, I read on the NYU website that AP credits will be awarded if the exams were taken before graduation so I freaked out and emailed them. An advisor responded saying I would not be awarded those credits were I to get a 4 or 5 on the exam since I’ve already graduated.
My $200 for the AP exam is unfundable so I will still take it because some studying will only benefit me in the long run and why not if I have already paid.
I understand that rule was probably put in to prevent people from taking a gap year and studying for a bunch of APs and avoiding those courses at NYU. But I feel like I’ve already learned the material and just did not have the opportunity to take the exam because my high school did not offer it…also I’m not receiving any extra resources or tutors etc I legit still know everything from last year.
Anyways, if I were to get a 4 or 5 on the exam, does anyone think they will notice I took the exam after hs? If that were to happen I’d probably try to explain my situation and see if they will let me get credit for it. I’m taking it regardless but can anyone touch the possibility of me going around this rule?
Thanks!
