Art Center College of Design, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, School of Visual Arts, or Ringling College of Art and Design? Any advice would be very appreciated! Thanks!

No one can really answer this until we know:
- What are you interests/major considerations?
- What is your families financial situation?
- Did you get scholarship offers from any of these?

Hi, Thanks for responding to my post! I will be majoring in Photography. I am from the Midwest and I am looking for more of an urban environment for college and a career. I applied to all 4 schools the first week of October 2013. I chose them based on their curriculum, location, housing options, climate, study abroad options, and reputation. I toured the LA and San Francisco schools and really enjoyed the campus of OTIS, but their program didn’t interest me. San Fran wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. I was just accepted to SAIC, and it is probably my #1 choice based on their interdisciplinary courses and urban setting. I am still awaiting responses from the other three. If I had to list them from my favorite to least it would be: 1. SAIC, 2. Art Center, 3. SVA, 4. Ringling. To give you an idea of what types of schools I am interested in, here is a list of colleges that I have considered: Parsons, Cooper, OTIS, SFAI, CCA, LCAD, MIAD, SAIC, Art Center, PRATT, Ringling, SVA, and MICA. I am not interested in any universities. I was told I will not hear about financial assistance and scholarships until after the application deadlines. I think that I will be honestly happy at any of the places, so the money may or may not talk. At the same time I don’t want to have to worry about transferring if I don’t like it. They do all participate in the AICAD Mobility Exchange program that allows you to study at one of the participating schools for a semester, which is always an option. Or I could always choose my second choice for grad school. Depending on career opportunities after receiving your BFA, is getting your Masters worth it? Any thoughts on the four schools, or any others not stated would be very helpful!

Frankly I don’t know about the programs at any of the top schools that you mentioned. HOWEVER, based on rankings, the two top schools would be SAIC and SVA.

Moreover, you did omit the one school that I do know about and is among the top ranked if not the top ranked school for photography in the nation: Rochester Institute of Technology!

Thank you so much for your insight! I will take a closer look at RIT.

I actually go to school at SAIC and have to say that I really do like it. The atmosphere, campus and learning environment is really great.

Thank you fal101 for responding. Were you deciding on multiple schools, or did you know that SAIC was best for you? What is the 1st year program like there? What are many of the graduates or people that you know from there doing after graduation? Any other pros and cons that you can think of about actually being a student there would be very appreciated! Thanks for your time! :)
