Bump, (11th grade is 71.3% I miss calculated)

There are 23 Cal states, where did you apply? What is your SAT 1 or ACT score? What is your Sophomore GPA? Have you already graduated and are applying as a Freshman for Fall 2015? Answer these questions, so posters can help you.

Thanks for the reply, I graduated one year ago, I am applying as freshman for fall 2015. I completed my high school outside of the United States, but it was an American program. No ACT/Sat 1 only SAT subject tests. Which Cal states do you think will accept me? Thanks!

Also the I miss calculated 11th grade GPA its 71.3%

Which Cal States did you apply and what is your 10th grade GPA?

You need to take the SAT or ACT, you can’t use subject tests.

@aunt bea is correct. Since you graduated with a US HS diploma, you need to take the SAT 1 or ACT. You do not meet the Cal State requirements, so your application will not be considered. You can apply for Spring 2015 at the following Cal States after you take the SAT or ACT: Bakersfield, Channel Islands, San Francisco and Dominguez Hills only. If not, you need to wait until Fall 2015 to apply for Fall 2016 or consider attending a community college for 2 years and then transfer.

If I attend a community college would it be hard to transfer later since I am not an American citizen?

It depends on your grades and EC’s in Community College. Both CC and your university choice will be full pay.

Thanks for the reply, my first post might have mislead you. I did not graduate from a HS here in the United States. My HS followed an American program, so I am not required to take any SAT tests, I took them as an extra, also I am applying as an International student

I applied to San Marcos, LA, San Jose, SF, Fullerton. Do I have a chance of getting accepted at any of these?

San Jose and Fullerton are impacted in STEM majors, so, based on your school history, I would say that you won’t get into these schools.

Although the SAT/ACT for San Marcos is not required, students who submit SAT or ACT scores are given more consideration because it looks like you have nothing to hide. Your D will not get you in to either San Marcos nor San Francisco.

You might get into Cal State LA, but that’s about it.

Since you have not posted a CSU GPA and only have SAT subject test scores which look less than competitive, it would be difficult to chance you. Since you have already graduated, what was you overall GPA? If it is less than a 3.0 (B) average, the Cal States recommend you submit SAT/ACT scors especially for impacted campuses and majors.

I agree with @aunt bea, Cal State LA may be your only option.

thanks for the reply both of you. My GPA in 10th grade is about 60% 11th grade 71%, and 12th 93.3% so average about 74.7% I think thats a C+ in the states? I also have a Biology Sat subject test 480 so 4 Sat subject tests. Also the TOEFL is great they ask for around 61+ I scored 108/120. So no chance to get into fullerton/SM/LA?

Gumbymom is right, you haven’t shown a competitive GPA.

TOEFL has nothing to do with grades. It’s how you perform in the classroom that is important to the universities. Your biology grade is really low. Most schools look at 10th and 11th grades which for you is a D average in 10th, and barely above a C for 11th grade. In other words, your grades and scores are not competitive and really weak. I believe you may not even get into Cal State LA. Try the Community colleges to increase your scores. You will be at full fees both at the community colleges and the Cal States.

Cal States are all about the numbers: GPA and test scores. Your SAT subject test scores are not high enough to compensate for a low GPA. Here are the average GPA’s for incoming Freshman last year:
SJSU 3.39
CSUF 3.31
CSUSM 3.18
CSULA 3.18
SFSU 3.196

Cal states also admit by major and Business is impacted at most of the campuses, so you would need higher than average GPA and test scores.

By going to a CC, you can basically wipe the slate clean and start all over. Do well at your CC and you can transfer into your choice of a Cal State in approximately 2 years. Good Luck.
