haha yeah exaaactly ! ah you hit the nail on the head there
i’m still in between =/ though, and i believe we can only have 19.5 credits ?
i was thinking of signing up for both of the classes, and hoping i can handle it or dropping one [what some upperclassmen encourage]. Thing is that with both classes that’d be 20 credits, and i’m not concerned about the challenge as much as i am confused as to whether that’s even allowed in the first place. lol

i have a question also, are all of these classes only one-quarter long ? so all of these classes that we’re signing up for are only one-quarter long and next quarter we sign up for different classes? because i remember reading about math 10 and the description described it as a three-quarter series. that must’ve referred to a, b, and c altogether ? somewhat of a stupid question, i know, but it’s just something i need clarification on.

OLlamaRama:

Yup. Classes are only a quarter long. When it says like three quarter series, its like take MATH 10A first quarter, MATH 10B second, MATH 10C third, etc.

Can someone else clarify the whole 19.5 credit cap thing? Cause I definitely have seen people say that they’ve taken more than 20 credits before. Is it like you can only sign up for 19.5 credits originally, then once everyone has had the chance to sign up then you can sign up for more if you want?

Is recommended that an engineering student take Calculus the first quarter? Econ 2 fits my schedule much better than Math20c and I think I might have a better chance of getting into the class I want with Econ.

You can sign up for additional units beyond 19.5 units on the first day of classes. That forces you to prioritize which classes you need. :)

You should take math in the first quarter as an engineering student…Remember that you need to get through Math20F, so if you’re starting at Math20A, you have a long way to go, and 20A is needed as a prereq/coreq for some classes (Physics and Chem come to mind)

ohh ok. so if i sign up for a math 10 class do you have to complete the series?? or could i, say, take math 10b fall quarter, and the phil 10 winter quarter ?

Do the professors care if you’re a couple of minutes late to class? cuz two of my classes are kinda far part

thankss for the response ucsd915. :)

Take calculus. Calculus is a huge prereq for your main engineering courses so it is best to get the math stuff out of the way asap

@ newatSD

i’m positive they wont care. i would be on time to the first class though so that you wouldn’t be dropped.

I’m only taking one lab this fall: MAE 156A

Agreed. It’s really REALLY good algebra practice anyway. That helped me a lot when I took physics.

I just registered for my classes.

CAT 1 (writing course for Sixth college)
Math 31AH
Sociology 1
CSE 3

cse 3 is awesome! I recommend everyone take cse 3 whenever they have a chance to. It’s one of the most popular (and easiest) courses on campus and it fills up fast. The class teaches lots of useful stuff that can be useful for the rest of your time in college

for the people taking chinese…did you guys take the placement test yet? if not, are we to select a class from the the schedule or is there a block that will not let us enroll. So if we do have intentions of taking chinese, we should leave an empty spot in our schedules for chinese?

@eric884

yeah i couldn’t enroll in chinese yet because i didn’t take the placement test, so i’m planning to take it once i get to SD. I left a space for chinese but filled it up with a class I don’t really need just incase there’s no more room once i take the placement test.

thanks x3anna

I want to take cog sci, but intro to cog sci is too early in the morning for me…lol.
do you guys think it’s fine for me to just go into cogs 11?

I’m taking:

DOC1 (Mariscal)
LTEN21 (Grattan)
MATH10A (Weinkove)
CHEM11 (Brydges)
SOC87

I’m taking:

CAT 1
LTEN 21
LTRU 1A
COGS 17

ETHN 87
SXTH 20

I only have 14 units worth of courses this quarter. Is this normal for a freshmen or should I consider one more class?
