Which classes to take for 11th grade?

This is actually a very dumb problem, in my opinion. (and I am the parent posting, but I intend to send my daughter the link so she will be reading the answers, she can post here too). Anyway, they make AP science courses worth 2 credits. And AP social studies are 1.5 credits, and it is a block system at the school, so 4 courses in the fall, 4 in the spring. It is not the 4 on A days and 4 on B days. This makes scheduling ridiculous.

So..right now, she has in the fall, AP Chemistry, Orchestra, French 3, and PSAT Team/speech. In the spring, she has the rest of AP Chem, AP French, Orchestra, and AP English. So no math, no history. She cannot take AP French the next fall, she cannot take 2 AP Chem in the spring, she cannot take PSAT/speech in the spring, you get the idea.

This means, I am going to have to spend near $1000 on US History over the summer next summer (I do not want to do that) or she takes regular US history in her senior year (she hates regular level courses. If she took AP US History as a combo AP English/AP Us History class during the year, then the 2 together would be 2 credits and go all year. She would need to drop AP Chemistry. Then she would have no science. She could take AP Chemistry in her senior year.

This will be the last year in which the classes will be on her transcript when she applies early decision to her top choice schools. This will be the last round of AP exams or preparation for SAT 2 tests basically. If she drops AP Chem to fit in AP Us History, she can either take a 1 credit regular level science class (which would bring down her weighted GPA, our state universities care about that, I have been told private do not) or she could fit in AP Statistics. (she already completed preAP pre-cal and AP math will not fit in to this schedule I am thinking, since she will only have an opening in the spring).

This leaves her with AP English Lit for her senior year, AP Math, AP Econ and AP Gov't. If she still needs science, then she will take AP Chem then.

I hope I have not been too confusing. Thanks!

Let me edit to make the question simpler incase I have completely confused....AP Chemisty or AP Us History? She needs some sort of US history to graduate, but the AP Chemistry could be substituted with a regular level science class. She plans to go in to maths and sciences for a career.

It looks like she’ll have to take a regular level course either way, so it would be much better to do regular US History senior year and AP Chemistry junior year if she wants to go into Math/Science. And if I’m reading this correctly, it would also maintain her weighted GPA.

AP french right after French III? I dont think so. AP French is the equivalent of french V at my school.

My only advice is that since she’s applying early, take all the APs you think/she thinks she can do best in. That doesn’t necessarily mean take the easiest class however. The counselors at the school let colleges know how hard classes are at the school so colleges have a better understand of the rigor of each student’s courseload. That being said, take the classes that she’s best at (if she has a knack for science, put her in the science class, if she’s a math whiz, due the math class). Anything else she’ll put into Senior year no biggie.

Also, I’m pretty sure self studying is free. She can self study the course (over the summer or school year) and take the exam with the other kids who paid for the class. Alot of people do that with classes not offered at their schools. And you could even higher a tutor (the end price of tutoring will probably be less then $1,000). I strongly suggest this, especially if you have a smart and dedicated daughter.

@Teaspoons Off topic, but that’s at your school. At mine, we only have three years of regular language and then AP.

At most schools, AP foreign language classes are usually only after four years of a language, although schools with more advanced foreign language programs might do otherwise.

Penguinone…you are not my child. Sorry. Wrong mom. I even double checked with my daughter.

To clarify…if she took AP US History this year, she can either take a regular level science class (1 credit) or go with no science this year, and do AP Chem next year. Our school does call French 4 the AP class.

LOL Penguinone…Ok…ok…I can love you too…I can adopt you. You can share a room with either your new adopted sister (if you are a girl) or your new adopted brothers (if you are a boy, and we have mostly boys, so you will be the 3rd in the bedroom). LOL…I have always said the more the…ummm…did I say merrier? Because I think I meant crazier!

Why can’t penguinone share a room with his sister? SEXIST!!!
Also at my school we have 5 years of language before ap
