Is it possible to attend the college of chemistry and take classes which are pre-med? Or do you have to only attend the college of letters and science?

Yes. However i’ve heard it will kill your gpa… cause classes are really hard… that’s partly why im switching out… + im not that good at chem

chem classes will destroy you gpa. don’t do it.

could you guys please elaborate? because i’m doing pre-med in the college of chem .___.

same here but as a predental

It’s possible to be a successful pre-med anywhere. Everyone on this forum is going to try to convince you do to a major that has an easy curve like IB, don’t let them get to you. You can do fine in any major here as long as you can put time into your classes.

The College of Chemistry is a great college here, one of the best in the nation, and if you study hard enough, you will get into medical school.

There is no pre-med major at most schools, there is just a list of courses most med schools require:
Bio - 1 yr w lab
Chem - 2 years w/lab and 1 of the years OChem
Physics- 1 yr w lab
Math- 1 year calc and/or calc & stats
English- 1 year

This is the general list, any one can be a premed in any major, just take these classes for your GEs.

The problem is that you really need over 3.5/30MCAT for safe consideration and if you are applying to a UC med school, their average GPAs are more like 3.7+

It’s like the HS question- should I take AP with a B or regular class with an A and the answer is AP w/an A…people ask, “should I take a hard major?” or even, “should i go to Berkeley or an ‘easy’ school?” The best answer is Berkeley in a hard major with a 4.0 ;)

So, pick your prereqs and start working on them and just see how it goes, but know that if you begin sinking below 3.5 you will have a very tough application process- check out student doctor forums network for sad details
